Hi jonnyv,
to the forums!
The PGPSW camera database has been going for about six years so it's quite established. However this doesn't mean that the data itself is out-of-date and old as the data is kept current by members submitting changes and the data is kept accurate by MaFt and his team of verifiers.
Have you checked your Garmin against the list of compatible devices?

Hello jonnyv
Welcome to the PGPSW site "if I can say that" Ooops some body beat me to it.
We are a very friendly bunch of people as you will find out
If you click on the speed camera database at the top left of the screen then the latest release date is the 17th of July.

Thanks for the welcome !
Privateer, yes, ive checked the compatability list and my garmin is the vista Hcx (updated version of the cx)
Ive been using a friends garmin as he has the speed camera file loaded on to his unit, its an old version of the database (Camera Database - Version 5.084 - 20 Aug 2007)
If i join and download the .csv file for my garmin Hcx, will mine be more up to date ?

Thanks, just joined and downloaded the latest file.
which is best to get ?
My friends old file was the Consolidated by Type: Contains one file for each type of speed camera.
so ive downloaded that one.
Do the others offer any more features than 'consolidated by type' ?
thanks |

Consolidated is the best for Garmins.

No it's just the way the information is presented. |

there is a full description on the download page for the cams and what is included in each download. there are three types
single file with all cameras in it
consolidated, one file per type, ie gatso specs temp mobiles etc,
speed zoned complete, which lists every camera by type and speed warning
that help:) |

I use "Speed Zoned Complete", which breaks each category down and gives you Gatso 20, Gatso 30 etc whereas the consolidated database only gives you a "Gatso" warning.
Perhaps the best way for you to find out is try each one and see which best fits your preferences.
If you look towards the bottom of the downloads page, you'll see a table beneath the heading "What camera database categories do I need?" which explains this a little better. _________________ Andy

On a Garmin the Consolidated says "Gatso: 12345@50" as does the Speed Zoned Complete and Single File Databases. |

Thanks, Paul, I've been using the Speed Zoned Complete on TomTom and simply looked at what I thought the table was showing...and, of course, your previous replies beat mine anyway so perhaps I should have left it to the experts _________________ Andy

Hmmm the second part of that post has disappeared..... So here it is...
However with the Single File database the icon is always a camera icon and doesn't help distinguish one camera from another. With the Speed Zoned it displays a speed roundal but don't tell you the camera type. The Consolidated gives a different coloured icon depending on the camera type.
As all the info you need is at the top of the screen it's down to what you want to see on the main part of the screen. I prefer Consolidated because when you get a cluster of cameras you can see what they are and in what order they occur at a glance. I find it easier sometimes to just look at the icon, know I'm on a 40 mph road and not bother with the Alert Banner. |

As a general note...people should realise we are talking about use in modern Garmin models here.
On most other brands, the Speed-zoned version is still the best.
Perhaps it should be made clearer on the instructions... as I just found out in answering another post, the instructions for Garmin POI Loader HERE only mention the speed zoned version. |
