If I remember correctly, these cameras (and the ones on the M25) are on the signage gantries. I'd just presumed that these could be moved by accessing the gantry via the fixed ladder from the hard shoulder. I didn't realise that the lanes would have to be closed.

The gantries on the M42 are just glorified scaffolding poles. There's no ladders and no walkway along the gantry. Any work would have to be done from the ground with carriageway closures at a minimum. As the local authorities are happy at present about how the scheme is working, it's unlikely that anyone will want the bother to move them.

As Dennis said, there's enough warnings given now - I agree that I don't want to be shouted at any more along that stretch. Smile

I take your point but it still makes me a bit nervous.

Why? What do you do on other roads where cameras may exist that are not yet in the database?

My problem is that the system on the M42 is being abused by the "authorities".

Last week when the motorway was very quiet, the variable speed limit went down to 40mph past a working speed camera then went back to normal. Were they trying to raise revenue by catch people out who go fed up at driving at a crawl when there was obviously no need?
