|
|
Hi folks,
Stupid question, but I'm beginning to doubt myself!
I have just got TomTom Navigator 7. With previous version I have used Speed Zone Complete, but now I'm wondering why.
I've read through the FAQ and searched, but I can't find a practical explanation of the difference between the different types (for the UK database). Clearly they are either in one file, or split into type, or type and speed. But what practical difference does this offer? Can I still create Nearby POI alerts irrespective of the file type? Can I still use the voice alerts for any type? Does it even matter?
Thanks (for humouring me!) |

You'll find the details under "What camera database categories do I need?" towards the bottom of the camera download page. Scroll past the coloured table.
I'm afraid I can't offer advice on the best to download for your device as I'm not familiar with it, but I use the speed zoned. _________________ Anita

The Speed Zoned set up with OGG files for spoken alerts will offer the most information when approaching a camera as you get a warning of type and rated speed.
Consolidated by type will offer a warning of the type of camera but with no speed related information.
Single file just warns there is a camera location ahead - nothing about type or speed.
The choice is down to the end user, speed zoned does take longer to setup, but in my opinion is considerably better with the TomTom software - Mike |

Thanks for the replies.
Looks like I must have chosen speed zoned for that reason then, as I would be after the most informative setup. |

Please be aware that when using OGG files the software can crash during setting up of the Warn When Near POI option, when the screen asks "Is this the sound you want to use" you must answer YES even though it doesn't play anything, if you answer NO the device will display some stupid message about no photographs and lock up, this is consistent with the PNA devices running version 7 and 8 software - Mike |

Thanks for the tip. Luckily I read the instructions quite carefully and spotted that, although IIRC not every type had a voice file. |

That depends on which voice set you use.
Some of them were created when certain camera categories didn't exist (pMobiles is a good example). |
