Vodafone Mini gps receiver + Bluetooth to Mobile Phone

OAP newbie here! I saw a miniature GPS receiver in my local Vodafone shop; about 3 cms square and 1 cm thick, £40. By bluetooth it will transmit maps to your mobile. How you control or select them in anyone's guess. I suppose it just gives you a few hundred yards round your present position. Any thoughts on how this might work, at a practical level, and could it be useful would be most welcome. I fancy a new gadget
