Would tomtom v7 maps work on v8 software?

I want to get a tomtom 530.

however i will also be going to New Zealand in a couple of months, they only the last genoration maps at the moment.

is it possible to load the older style maps on to the newer software?

I'm guessing the IQ routes and the fancy lane guidance wont work, but will they still work as maps with normal voice type navigation?
