Cheers. Still haven't corrected the Phone Home bug despite their assurance that

and that was after i updated 3.00....

Going to try adding an extra digit after the Home number in the Nuvi to see if that "fixes" what Garmin can't / won't...

Edit: It didn't work. If you edit the number and then try it dials the whole number including the extra digit. Reboot the unit and it ignores the last two digits. Its as if it can dial the whole number before a reboot and only get the first 10 digits of a phone number after a reboot.

Is that just a specific bug on the Nuvis / 700 series, then?

It seems to work fine on my C550.

Looks like it. If i dial Home using the Voice Dial or select it from the Phone Book in my Phone then all works well. However if you program your Home number into the Nuvi under the Home Location you get a Phone Home button. It works fine until you switch the system off. Upon restarting the Phone Home button will only dial the first 10 digits of any number.

I have told Garmin and they claim it's fixed.

It was the latter scenario I meant - ie enter your home phone number, and use the direct button, rather than the phone book. I hadn't tried it after a restart of the gps, though.

Have now, and it still works, so must be model / series specific bug.

Anyone experiencing the unit switching off at random with the new update?

Yesterday 7 mile journey to client and it switched off near their house. Did the same on the way back too but it was in the same area so i assumed it was something about that location.

Travelling down a road i go down almost every day it switched off again. I didn't use it for the return leg though.

Going out later so will test again. Running demos now.

Unit was well charged and it was just a case of one minute it's on the next i look down and black screen.

Freakishly just as i typed "black screen" above it switched off!!!!! No error, just switches off......

Dear Garmin.......

Downgraded to 3.00. Reset User data. Switched on, got a lock so i was at my Home Location. Switched on the GPS Simulator. Ran a simulated route to Garmin Europe as it's a built in Favourite when you reset user data. Simulated route. Ran for 4 minutes OK.

Upgraded to 3.10. Reset User data. Switched on, got a lock so i was at my Home Location. Switched on the GPS Simulator. Ran a simulated route to Garmin Europe as it's a built in Favourite when you reset user data. Simulated route. Ran for 1 minute and switched off.....

Back to 3.00 :-(

Which Nuvi? It helps to have this information in your signature. You can add it by going into the Profile at the top of the forum.

You should never install an update unless you know you are going to be able to revert or have some time testing it. I only installed it as i knew i had a couple of days driving familiar routes.

1) Backup the Current.GPX file from Garmin\GPX folder and the POI.GPI file from Garmin\POI folder.

2) Download the relevant firmware from here

The files are named with the Nuvi model number and firmware version. You need nuvixxx_300.exe replace xxx with the relevant number from your model number (i.e. 710, 760, 770...) Download an save it to your PC.

3) With the Nuvi plugged into the PC run the downloaded program and follow the instructions.

4) When done unplug the Nuvi and leave alone for a few minutes. It'll take a while and will restart 2 or 3 times. The only thing you need to do is confirm you do want to install an older firmware and reset all user data. If you have backed up the files above you don't need to worry.

5) Once the unit restarts copy back the Current.GPX file and POI.GPI to the relevant folders and set the unit up again.

Every time there is a Firmware update you can download it separately from here and keep your own collection of Firmwares.

Possible. Yesterday i got 15 minutes down the road before it switched off - only 2 minutes from the destination Then on the way back around the same point it switched off again about the same point.

On a demo route this morning it only got 2 minutes into any demo before switching off. It was almost as if it was a certain point on the map or command caused it to switch off.

So i set my location at my In-Laws (325 miles away Laughing ) and tried a route back to here and it switched off 1-2 minutes into each trip. If i plugged the unit into the mains it froze instead of switching off.....

Revert back to 3.00 and it ran for 20 mins on both routes with no switch off.
