I have just upgraded to the 930T and did a search to see if anyone had the same problem as me. It is great apart from the one thing - When the sun comes out I cannot see a thing. I have tried altering the brightness but to no avail.
Is this common with them all, I never had the problem with my 910.
I have seen I can buy a shade from my search, but wondered if there was any other solution.

Maybe experiment with different colour schemes and also try different tilt and swivel of the unit - I don't suppose it's often actually reflecting the sun, simply the glare all around you. I find I can read the screen from other than an angle square on to my own eye-line - so it's tilted slightly forwards, so that the reflection I'm getting is from below my shoulder level, which is tolerable.

Otherwise, I think you'll find the only solution is a suitable screen.

Thanks Dennis, I used it for the first time this weekend and tried all the different colours. Also had it in different positions on the windscreen. Our concern is that we use it a lot in Florida where there is obviously a lot of sunshine!

I agree it is the glare that is the problem rather than the actual reflection.

Well, your profile didn't say you live in Florida, just an avatar that shows you cycling past the moon. People who live in Florida have to have some sort of wrong to make up for all the benefits! Twisted Evil

Try not wearing light coloured (sorry, colored, speak your language, make you feel at home) clothing (shirt, T-shirt) to add to the reflections. Black is good and will help you fry in the sunshine. Twisted Evil

Very Happy Laughing

Wish I did live out in Florida Cool

We are lucky enough to go over a few times a year and we tend to drive around a lot which is why I always go for the 9 series.
Just back from a weekend in Fairford where the rain cancelled the airshow so not too happy with the british weather at the moment!!

I do drive round the UK with my job a lot so find a sat nav a necessity so hopefully I can find a way around my problem.

Yes, I was always able to use my 910 no problem with the sun at all, it just seems that the screen on the new 930 is not very good when there is a glare.

I used my GlareStomper sun visor for a longish journey for the first time last weekend. It isn't an elegant solution, and I hate having the velcro stuck to my 720, but I found it quite effective.

It's available here. You need model 320 for an x20 or x30.

Thanks Anita, I think this is the way I will go too - trying it out once more in different positions this weekend to see if I can get it any better first.

I use my 930 daily in Florida, alongside my nuvi 760. I'll confirm there are times of the day when the TT is nearly impossible to see. No curing it by adjusting the angle of the display, tho you can improve it a bit.

Hi

The problem might be that tomtom use different Screens
in batches
As far as I know they use TFT's from
Samsung, Philips and Sharp

Reset your unit (using paper clip)
HOLD POWER BUTTON down and keep it pressed down

Black screen will appear and at the bottom of all the boot info
you will see the tft manufacturer
Some screens may have better tint than others
Samsung ones seem quite good quality

This is problem with some tomtom's the screens seem to have better picture on some that others

The picture is fine on my 520 & if I lived in a cave I'd be a very happy bunny but add a bit of bright sunshine & it's all but impossible to see, & wearing sunglasses makes it worse. I've tried blinds all round the car without improvement but I reckon the baseball cap idea would work a treat.
