looks a very interesting thread for (mainly camera) POIs in European countries. It actually includes a reference to PGPSW so a bit of twinning seems to going on already!

I'll have a closer look to see what else has happened there recently.

Darren, you may want to advise GpsPasSion to update your url. The link here is the old? pocketgps .co.uk although it does reach here (would that have any effect on Google rankings?), and they state a monthly sub is still available.
Not sure if their database is free or not, but it is unfortunate that theirs gets regular attention in dodgy places since PGPSW clamped down on piracy.

Another bit of (slightly incorrect) "twinning". I have just seen in PoiEdit a link to this site, together with a very brief description of the database - but it says, for example, that you don't differentiate between camera types!

I found it when I went into the maps section and then into the download UK maps bit.

Maybe another bit of clarification/correction is called for here!(Still, another tick!)

Hi all, have been lurking on this site for a v long time, it's great site, absolute gold mine of info. I thought it's about time I contributed a thought, for what it's worth.

As your asking for suggestions, how about a "roadworks" POI file ?
With all those pairs of eyeballs out there everyday, it may be possible to accumulate a lot of data.

Dunno if this is actually viable, I'm guessing that there may be a certain amount of lag between members sending in locations and the data being made available as a download. The lag being caused by someone having to compile all the locations and weed out duplicates etc etc, before uploading it to the website. This may mean it would only work for major roadworks and contraflows etc. Also it may not be financially viable for the same reason

If it was do-able you could then have a warning at whatever distance you choose before hitting roadworks.

Just a thought.

as well, there aren't any devices that have an 'avoid poi' function that i am aware of so it'd be a manual task to reroute!

still, a good suggestion once manufacturers get their acts together ;)

Just a quick one, and it may have already been requested but is there any chance that the file names of the downloaded databases for speed cameras be more meaningful eg CAMiGoUKConsol170708.zip?

I know one can rename them as they are saved but as I have several programs such as TomTom6, iGo8 etc and I often download several versions, it can get quite confusing. Shocked

These days, I access the web via my mobile phone as much as I do from a PC.

So, make pocketgpsworld a mobile app, one that can be viewed from a phone.
