Hello
I've just got myself a 520T, to replace Navigator on an IPAQ.
I was made up to have the facility to play MP3 files, as my car stereo doesn't have an audio jack for my MP3 player (Skoda built in thingy), but it's now become so annoying that it's almost funny.
Is there any way to prevent the unit from pausing music when instructions are voiced ?
I don't play music loudly and I have the brainpower to differentiate between Kate's directions and The Zutons.
It's really annoying to have the songs cut out all the time, especially when getting to a part of the journey where there's lots of (often superfluous) directions.
Thanks for any help on this, 'cos it's getting right on my .... well, you know
Mike |

This is SOOOOOOO annoying, and to my mind makes the mp3 player virtually useless, especially around town when the instructions are coming thick and fast.
Have the software designers at TomTom never actually listened to it on a drive?
What is even more annoying is that if you select the music to play over Bluetooth, you DO get the option of whether to pause it or not for navigation instructions, so it must be easy to do it!
Can I ask that you report it to TomTom support as a "bug"?
If enough people moan, I hope it gets it higher on the list of things to change.
If you don't know the rather ridiculously complicated method you have to use to open a support question with them, shout and I'll go through it. |

Ditto...
For a journey I travel regularily I will often have the route set purely for traffic and ETA purposes, I don't need the spoken navigation. Even the silent voice option pauses the story/podcast. It would surely just need an option to disable navigation audio only. |

There IS that option on the x20 and x30 models.
Change preferences/Voice preferences/Disable voice
What I want though, is the option to keep the voice running but not pause the audio, like you can over Bluetooth. |

As Andy said in an earlier post the device does offer this option but only when using the Bluetooth audio output which requires a car head unit that not only complies to the A2DP standard but also works with the TomTom, if you get the choice correct you are offered:
Why this option cannot be made available when using Line Out or FM Tx is a real shame as a lot of users would find it handy - Mike |

What is even more daft is that you can choose the internal speaker for the instructions and the car radio for music and the music still mutes when you get the instructions. It wouldn't even be so bad if it paused then carried on where it left off, but it just mutes it and, if you are listening to an audiobook, you miss part of the story. _________________ TT Go Essential |

I don't know how many times I have been through the preferences pages and just not seen that. Thanks and it did exactly what I wanted |

Oh well, I'm glad it's not just me
I think I will report it - for what it's worth.

I've reported it as a bug - and received a 'nice' (by which I mean, probably standard) email which explains how seriously they take customer feedback, pass things through to development where appropriate, etc. etc., yada yada
Can I ask that anyone else who has the same issue reports it as well, as the more reports, the more likelihood of someone looking at it in the next 5 years
Cheers |

if you disable the voice, doe's it still activate a voice camera warning or have you got to select a noise? in which case if you travel through N.Wales it would be like travelling through a city with continual interuptions! |

Depends how you do your warnings....
If you use a TTS voice warning it is disabled along with the navigation instructions.
If you use a sound effect or ogg file based voice warning they are not disabled. |

Text entered as a warning to use the text-to-speech facility also still works |
