Hi. First post, so I hope this is in the right section.
I have just bought a Garmin Summit HC and tried to load it with some tracks from my old version of Fugawi UK. No joy. My old GPS used the serial port with no problem, but the Summit uses USB. The track name loads ok, but nothing else, no actual track. I tried it again using a new demo version of Fugawi UK, by importing an old track into the new program and everything worked just fine. The demo only runs for 9 days though so it's not a long term solution.
If I buy the new version of Fugawi I can't use my old maps (OS Licence restrictions?) so would have to buy a whole new set. Any ideas for solving this? Thanks for any help. |

Do you have the option to use the USB port on your Summit as a serial port (sometimes referred to as GPS Spanner by GARMIN)?
You can then load a USB-Serial port driver (Garmin supplied) to allow you to connect to your PC via USB but your Fugawi will see it as a 'normal' COM port.
If you don't have serial capability then: save the tracks from Fugawi as .GPX files and copy these to the Summit as a file. There will probably be a GPX folder on your Summit somewhere. _________________ Phil |

philpugh. Thanks for your reply. No option to export files as GPX on my version of Fugawi UK (whatever GPX is). I've not seen any mention of using the USB port as a serial, but will start searching. Is gpsbabel easy to use and would it be of help to me? Fugawi can export as a text string of OS references, could I use these somehow? |

GPSBabel could be of use here.
I'm not sure what formats the Summit would use internally for tracks. My older Garmin hand held (GPS II+) used the proprietary GARMIN format - which GPSBabel will handle. My new Colorado uses GPX format.
GPX is a 'standardised' language for interchanging GPS related info (tracks, routes, waypoints etc). _________________ Phil |

Problem solved. I found Fugawi could export in Lowrance USR format, into GPSBabel (very frightening looking) and that would connect with my Summit with no problems. |
