I am moving to a car based Sat Nav so I am now looking for a GPS based camera detector. There seems to be a lot of good talk about the Talex Lite, but I can't find anything about the Elite. Is anyone able to advise on the diference and whether the Elite is worth the extra money?

Thanks
Steve

talex elite was pinched by novus thus no info on the talex site. novus now call it the alpha i beleive and the elite i have does have a nice screen showing you a countdown to traps etc, but its the database, im personally not happy with the databse and have tried numerous times to sell the elite on ebay only to find no one is interested in it. personally i would hold on a few weeks as ive heard talex website will be going live with some new devices.

Steve,

I use a Garmin 250WSat Nav with the Pocket GPSW database installed. Although no system will be 100% reliable I've been generally very happy with this combination.

As an aside, I also own a Talex Lite (which I use for fixed camera detection particularly at night). I've tried both the Novus and Talex databases in, admittedly unscientific, comparison and concluded that I'm much happier using the Pocket GPSW database on the Garmin. Fixed cameras are quickly updated and known mobiles captured accurately.

Incidentally, you might have seen that there is work going on to install the Pocket GPSW database onto the Talex. That, for me, would be the ideal and could be worth waiting for.

I use the 8073 database which, incidentally, on a trip from Oban to Dundee yesterday missed an active mobile (car and officers present) which Pocket GPSW picked up. 8073 is, I believe, current.

ive found ALL databases WILL miss mobile locations. talex, novus, road angel, pocketgps. NO DATABASE can say they have ALL of the locations as new locations appear and one site might be only used once in 6 months whilst another site everyday.

incidently i have just submitted some mobile sites to pocket gps and a couple to talex. so i for one as a professional driver know that this will be one issue that no database will ever win on.

i think there is only talex who claim to have 100% of camera sites!!

pgpsw, for one, certainly have never claimed that!

Interesting to note that a post indicating that the Elite's database is poor but the Lite is spot on !

I would have thought that the databases would be identical from the same company ?

the elite works on a different database up load to the other devices, this caused loads of problems between november and up to spring this year where as the elite couldnt be updated making its database basically useless, thus why i put my elite back in its box.

I'm thinking that Talex calculates 'weeks' in a similar manner that Microsoft calculates 'minutes' Smile

I have noticed a new device on the Novus site but Talex Technology still takes to the same old 'Welcome to 2008' page.

What's the odds on the Novus new device being the same as the Talex new device ?
