In the early hours of this Friday, I'll be bellying up to the check-in desk and some nice person will ask ...
Have you any sharp objects? - Reply - I'm not allowed sharp objects.
Did you pack your suitcase yourself? - Yes.
Are you carrying anything for anyone else? - No.
Question one gets a true answer. The others? You've got to be joking! Last time I packed for myself was before I met Vera and for a fortnight on a Greek island I packed 3 pairs of shorts, 3 T-shirts, 1 swimming costume, 13 pairs of underpants, 13 pairs of socks, a faded baseball cap and a plastic bag for dirty washing.
This time, I know where my phone charger and Greek dictionary are, but beyond that, Vera will tell me which drawer or wardrobe to look in, in our studio, a short time after we arrive.
As for carrying for someone else. Do they seriously think Vera can get her stuff into just her own bag? - Why else am I taking a bag if it isn't to carry some of Vera's stuff? _________________ Dennis

I'm sure that whatever space is available in both bags is soley for the bringing back of wizzy and cakey things. _________________ Dom

Funny that. Before i met Linda i used to pride myself on being able to get a weeks worth of kit into one decent sized bag and still have room to spare. Now i have to marvel at a parade of suitcases and smaller "utility" bags. I've stopped asking what's in them all and just try to work out how to get them all in the car. And this is just when we travel to her parents for a weekend in Durham!
We're off on Saturday morning to Lake Garda and so on Friday night I'll be physically packing my suitcase but the mental effort will all be Linda's. (Mainly because, most of the time, when it comes to me and clothes she's right..... most of the time...) So when asked "Did you pack this case yourself", surely i should just be able to wave my left hand like a Jedi and receive a knowing "Ah, of course" from the check-in person and be left alone whilst Linda answers the questions?
In fact, whilst she's out i might hide some of her shoes so I don't have to work out where they are all going to go..... |

So, what's your reply to those questions, officer?
I wonder also how members of the Royal Family would answer.
I used to travel to Ireland on a regular basis and the only time I ever had a bag searched was after the supposed easing of border controls within Europe and between the UK and Ireland _________________ Andy

I suspect that the person who packed the bag may also be responsible for carrying it. I have never seen pictures of the Royal Family carrying bags through airports. |

In my experience, the Royals don't even go into the airport buildings. They exit stage left !! _________________ Tommo...

No-one (except our rep) knew anything about until we started getting texts and calls from the UK!!!
On a different note, every time i come back into the UK some security bod always wants to double check me. From Germany they picked me out for a search through my bag, Rome they asked my to demonstrate my mobile phone, and at the weekend i got pulled from the Gate so some could have a look at my passport. Nothing major but no-one else ever seems to get stopped.
Anyway at least this time we didn't have the repeat drama of our last 2 flights to Germany and Rome where on BOTH occasions some people where in the wrong seats. The attendants had to sort it out by pointing out that whilst technically they were in the right seats, they were, in fact, on the wrong plane....... |

And regarding the 'Have you left your bags unattended?' question. I wonder how many remember that they left their bags with the hotel front desk while they laid by the pool all afternoon before their evening flight? _________________ Robert Brady |

Perhaps Paul it's because you sport a ridiculous grey beard and your surname is Bin-Laden.... _________________ Tommo...
