CoPilot Live map updates

Good review, many thanks. I will probably buy the software, but one thing concerns me.
What is CoPilot Live's policy on upgrades for registered users?
I couldn't find anything on their website, but the map data must have a short life and GPS Nav is critically dependent on an up to date database.
Do you know how often do they issue - or plan to issue - updates, and at what cost?

This is a FAQ for GPS Navigation applications.

Basically the economics of buying the map data are such that we are unlikely to see interim updates to map data whether free or at cost. The market seems to have settled down now so that map updates appear with the release of an update to the base application.

TomTom Navigator is a good example. V2 was released in March 2002 and came with new map data, V3 has just been launched and this contains the next update. The cost of the map data makes up nearly 80% of the production costs of the application itself. Although map updates are released by the geo data providers at 6 monthly intervals it is unrealistic to expect there to be a big market amongst users of PocketPC software for releases at this frequency when they would have to pay perhaps £120 for the update with no additional features apart from the newer map data.

So you could expect to see a new version of the application with additional features plus the newer map data approximately yearly. Some software houses heavily discount this to existing registered users, others don't!
