Was curious as to what is stored on device & what on the SD card.

I d/loaded new Euro map, but size meant it could only go
on the card.

Are anythings duped between 2 memories Question Question

It depends on the model, but I see from your sig. that you have a Go720.

On the x20 range EVERYTHING is supplied on the internal memory and there is only a dummy in the card slot.

If you want to add extra maps, mp3 music, audiobooks, photos or text documents, you can put them on an SD card and they will run in conjunction with anything on the internal memory.

If you wanted to (but there's not much point unless you wanted to try different versions of software), you could put EVERYTHING onto a card and the TT would boot from that as it looks at the card for operating software before it looks at the internal memory.

The same is true of the x30 models, but models older than those could ONLY use the internal memory (if it had any) OR the SD card, so if you wanted to use a large card for a large map, for example, you had to copy the system software, voices etc onto the card too.

(UPDATED!)Andy; sorry I used 'Darren' here, many thanks.
That would explain why TT Home2 now asks me what memory device I want to use, ie card or TT hard drive, which it didn't before.

I see TT recommend using cards with write speed of 10 times, but I used one I had to hand before, and am sure it's only around 6, and seems to work OK.

Fortunately high speed SDHC cards seem to crashing in price, so may get a new one.
Guess it's simple to copy across data from 1 to other?
Would you recommend doing that via PC's software or Tome Tom'sRazz

That’s a real no brainer, just use Windows Explorer as it is more reliable and you are in control of what is going on.

If you go for an SDHC card they work fine up to 4GB, after this they start to get a little troublesome. They are fine for music (I use an 8GB one in my 930 and 720) but to put files on to the card I have to use an SDHC card reader, the TomTom cannot write to the 8GB card correctly - Mike

Just a further note...
Apparently the new v8 software for the older models has apparently BROKEN Home's ability to switch between storage locations. A new version of Home is supposedly being rushed out....
Another well-tested software release! Clap
