My new S80 is not showing any TMC data and not finding any FM radio stations. I know Classic FM transmit TMC data, amongst others, but the S80 is not finding any radio stations.
Ideas please?

The signal is very weak in the UK and you might be in a dead spot. Have you tried driving around with it on?

Yes. I had it running on Tuesday travelling from London to the West Country and was rather hoping to get something to help avoid the troubles on the M25 and M4, but saw nothing!
Not even when I was right next to a transmitter site along the M4! I could see the aerials on the mast but nothing showing on the TMC stations page!

I live the just outside the M25 (on the Kent side) and surprisingly I have, touch wood had no issues in picking up the TMC data even in central London. My S90 still crashes though even though I only have the mobile cameras loaded. Oh well you cannot have everything !

Earlier posts indicate people had problems with the antenna that came with the Navman devices. if possible, try to connect to an external antenna, or even one of those ones that have suction cups onto the windsheild.

The supplied Navman aerial has those cups! It is fitted as recommended by Navman. The socket is a non-standard type (for aerials anyway! it's a 4-pole 3.5 mm jack), so difficult to connect to any other type of aerial. My car's external aerial is already connected to the car radio system, so not available for the S80 - and has a different plug/socket combination.
Passing within 200 yards of a powerful radio transmitter emitting the RDS and TMC signals carried on the FM radio broadcasts is surely giving a strong enough signal for it to be detected by the S80? But it shows nothing at all! Not even showing that any radio stations are being detected!

There have been posts about how to connect to you external antenna with a Y connector, and discussion around the non-standard Navman setup before. It can (and has) been done. I think one guy used a suction cup external antenna for a test, then looked at making a perminat connection to the fitted one.

One thing I remember was people having problems with certain heated windsheilds. Again - previous discussions may be worth a read. From memory a solution was to run the antenna along the very bottom of the windsheild where the heating element was missing.

All of these would not be expected to solve the problem if you are in a strong signal area, which you are, so the unit may be faulty - get a replacement as this would be the easiest way to determine if it.

i had a similar problem with my S70, call navman and explain that you have a problem with the aerial, they will send you a new one, cut the black end off, and add to it some standard speaker cable, attach along the bottom and up the side of the windscreen, and should work, mine did....
