Hi there,

I have recently upgraded to an ipaq 2210 with a socket bluetooth gps and tomtom navigator 2.

I'm staying over in Belgium at the moment so I'm using the system a lot and I decided to install checkpoint and sync it up to know about the speed cameras in the benelux using the poiplace website. However, this has caused a number of problems mainly that TomTom freezes after about 2 minutes when I have the POI's set to be displayed on the map. If I make them hidden tomtom doesn't crash and Checkpoint still detects them but you can't see where the camera is so this isn't ideal!

I suspected it simply could be that I've put in too many POI's for tomtom to handle so I have deleted all but the ones for speed cameras but the problem still remains. Could it still just be that the 20 or so categories I have installed are too much for tomtom or is it something else?

Does anybody have an idea what the problem could be? I'm rather confused Question

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Michael

It may be that you have too many displayed on screen, try this, in TT Properties, locate the POI Settings section and change the 'Maximum POI on map' setting to something lower (I have 20). This still shows POI's as you approach them but restricts the number being displayed on the Map when you zoom out.

If this fails then you have either too many categories loaded or some corruption on your storage card.

A variation on the problems ticex has………I created a POI file of Saab dealerships and created an associated BMP file by scanning in the logo from some Saab literature.

As long as I use the default bmp file created by WinOV2 (yellow box with a star) then I have no problem. The dealerships show up fine on the map and everything works.

However if I replace the default bmp file with my own file, renamed to match the .ov2 file of course, then TomTom freezes and will not launch. I have to soft reset my 2210. If I put the default bmp file back in, it all works ok again.

My own bmp file is 22x22 pixels and is 24bit bitmap, was created in Photoshop Elements 1.0. I only have one other POI file active and that is the camera database. Any help gratefully received.

I'd start by reducing the colours of the bitmap, I can't recall what the specifications are for these but 256 colours would be the most I'd recommend.

Hi Tony,

Have a look at this reply by Bo Peep for designing .BMP files.

Alternatively if you have CheckPOInt 3.2, you’ll find a pretty good Saab .BMP in the CheckPOInt folder on your PDA – but don’t tell anyone! ;)

Regards,

Darren and Robert - many thanks for the input.

Darren - you hit the nail on the head. After your comments I used a .gif file with 126 colours, resized it and converted to .bmp and it all works okay. Thumbs Up
