garmin nuiv 270

my tomtom pda is like a bit pasted it like me
so i got a nuvi 270 from handtec. very pleasd with
it and them. i backed it up on my harddrive added
speed cameras from here all ok. but manged to wipe
out my map of gb. had to phone garmin for help.
they are sending a disc and unlock code .
on tomtom i wiped and reinstalled it lots of times

if you backed it up before you wiped the map couldn't you just use the back up?!
