Hi everyone,

I was just wondering if anyone knew how to retrieve the total mileage of a journey with "manual" diversions?

For instance, here is a typical trip to work for me:

1. Press "Navigate To", then select work location, then start driving.

2. Find out via electronic signs en route that due to traffic it would not be optimal to take the normal route, so take an alternate route and let TomTom automatically recalculate.

3. Then at the end I want to check the total kilometers driven, so click "View Route" and then "View Summary", but I then always seem to get a partial route that starts only from the point at which TomTom had to recalculate an alternative!

Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

No way that I know of to do this on a "standard" TomTom.

TomTom's "Work" system for fleet operators would probably do it, but that isn't really an option for the normal user.

Look at "Tripmaster" or one of the other add-on utilities on THIS WEBSITE. That will probably do everything you want and more.

Ok it's as I feared then... Quite surprised that there isn't some way to do this since it strikes me as one of the most elementary features really.

Is there perhaps some workaround available by using "Prepare Route" instead of "Navigate To"? Thing is I'm yet to fully understand the relationship between a prepared route and a route that's currently being navigated - is there any way to create a prepared route and then to somehow start using it for directions even when located somewhere between the origin and destination?

P.S. I assume though that if you followed a diversion as programmed by the TomTom (for instance, TomTom detected a traffic delay and you told it to avoid it) you would in fact be able to see the mileage of the whole route and not just from the point of the diversion?

No.
All most satnavs can do is a single A-B route with an optional single waypoint in the middle.
The TomToms Itinerary can do more waypoints but needs to be entered manually.
Whenever the TomTom recalculates (if you deviate off its original route), it just "starts again" from wherever you happen to be with another simple A to B. Basically it doesn't have the intelligence to remember the whole route. I assume/suspect a deviation triggered by "Traffic" is handled in exactly the same way

If you want to prepare a route and then start in the middle of it, again the itinerary function can do that, but the unit still cannot MAKE an itinerary for you.

Are you dead set against Tripmaster? I don't need to use it myself, but have heard very good reports of it.

UPDATE:
Ive just remembered that the new software for the TomTom RIDER (v7.540) DOES have something like this function!

A completely new function is the dedicated trip statistics. This allows bikers to see average and maximum speeds per journey, total kilometres travelled and distance from home.

Hopefully this feature will be included in a later version for the other models, but unfortunately it doesn't seem to have made it into the first Navcore 8 versions on the x30 models.
