Last night, I ran into my first significant problem. Changing map cards, the A10 has frozen, and no amount of battery removals can help. The map is not shown as installed or active on the screen, and yet on satsync, the card data, including all my saved routes is shown on the PC....have to call them at 9am for advice.

Satmap very helpful...downloaded 1.186, which seems to have done the trick...unfreezed the unit....I now seem to be back in business.

Did they say when 1.186 would be available for public download from their site?

I don't think I'm posting something that I shouldn't, but here it is ;

Edit once to remove link at request of SatMap, see post below for explanation. Mike Alder

EDITED: It is labelled an Open beta test - so it should be OK to link here.

Having taken a quick look; their website does say it's an Open beta so I guess that anyone can download and use. usual caveats about possibly limited support for beta versions will apply.

Ummm....

The installation instructions are unclear on the website: is the exe file meant to be run inside the Satmap from an SD card, or is it a windows executable that is run on a PC with the Satmap attached by USB?

If it's the latter, there are going to be a lot of disappointed customers (myself included) who use computers other than Windows PCs. It was bad enough that they haven't followed through with their promise to make Satsync available on Mac, but if we're not going to be able to fix the bugs in the A10 by upgrading the firmware now, this is not looking at all good...

Well I'm no Windows PC expert...far from it, but I followed the instructions as outlined and found it pretty easy to do....plugging the cable in etc.etc.

It's a little early to be shooting them down. This is a Beta after all.

The update runs from windows desktop, I'm a Mac user but still have access to Windows through BootCamp or a UMPC.

I'm pretty sure that as and when this becomes a public update they will make it available on SD card as before if it is not possible to update from a Mac.

1) Device freezing is now fixed

2) Changed the way the device handles memory - mappacks should now load faster

3) Large mappacks and routes can now be used

1 Do you think this is all freezing!? Mine has frozen after several hours use from day 1 (on all firmware versions), even when no routes were on the unit....I wonder if this is genuinely sorted.

What are Satmap defining as a mappack? Their SD map cards? And if so in what way could large versions not be used before!? Shocked

The unit can now use large capacity SD cards, so maybe they'll start selling the entire UK in 1:50 000 on a single card, instead of having to swap between cards for North and South?

I was contacted earlier today by SatMap who requested the link is removed from the web site to the beta test version of their code, whilst it might be an Open Beta version they are still testing this code and do not want it in general circulation -it has been made available to a couple of owners to address specific issues.

Perhaps in future when they make downloads available to people with issues that can be fixed by updating devices to beta code they should also stipulate not to make the link public, it was a simple request to remove the link which I have now done, although I think SatMap should also re-think their whole approach to beta test code, at the moment it is not rocket science to work out the URL neither is it password protected.

They did say the new code would be available in the next few weeks subject to further testing, this is favourable as it will be the first time updates are supplied via download - Mike

This seems to show that SatMap are reading this forum, which can't be bad (though could be better!). If that is the case then at least they know what we think and would like.

And given Satsync's reliability in transfering routes I'm dreading using it to transfer firmware!!! Shocked
