S series internal memory?

I decided to buy an S50 over the S70 as I thought they were both identical apart from the S70 having the European maps installed (which I don't need).

However I was in my local "John Lewis" store today and they have the specs listed as, The S90i & S70 having 2Gb of Ram, whereas the S30 & S50 only have 512Mb (256/256 shared).

If this is so, would the S50 have enough Ram to handle the large speed camera database which is available on this forum?

the speed camera database here will only use about 1mb of space! most of that is taken up by the bitmaps!

however, you should note that the firmware for the s-series has a limitation in the number of poi's that can be stored on the device. it is a rather pathetic 12,000 points... considering our full uk database has over 13,000 cameras this was somewhat disapointing for navman users who 'upgraded' the the s-series.

many users, however, still subscribe bt just do without the mobile sites as this keeps the numbers well within the limits and still leaves space for other poi's like mcdonalds, asda etc

MaFt is right, and the memory wont be an issue as the 2gb / 512mb is there for the mapping (UK / Europe) - the POIs don't really take up much and will happily fit on either. Just keep to the mobile ones, not because of space issues, but software limitations / RAM problems. This should work well whatever S50-70-90i you have

Thanks guys! good to know that the GPSWorld camera database is still an option.

Incidentally, I was in Halfords today and discovered that if I'd waited two weeks, for an additional £30.00 I could have bought the S70 with TMC module and free protective case.
