I am pondering dishing out for a 8110/8310 partly on the basis the screen is bigger than on the 4350Max. I can't find anywhere on the web what the 4350max screen resolution is. I know the 8310 has a 4.8 inch screen running at runs at 480 x 272, rather than the 4350max 4.3 inch screen: but does the 8310/8110 have increased resolution to match its increased physical size? Mamking it bigger without putting "more dots on the screen" would devalue the benefit of a physically bigger screen to me.

This is born from having used a much earlier navigon (a 6300 approx 5 years old) which ran at 320x240 on a 3.5 inch screen. the resolution was a complete pain when trying to find somewhere on a map: there just wasn't enough information displayed. So I'm anxoius to improve on that situation as much as possible this time round.

Thanks !

Jonathan

The 8310/8110 and the 33xx/43xx's have the SAME reseolution of 480 x 272 pixel (WQVGA) (Source: User Manuals - Technical Specifications). If you are concerned about the view quality visit Halford's and have a look (plan and simulate a short route). But don't be surprised when they say what a dreadful load of tinnuf it is, and "why don't you buy the fabulous, incredible, unbeatable TomTom instead"! (Commissions, Commissions ...)

I find the actual 'picture' quality to be high. Although the mapping graphics aren't as smooth on the move as say Garmin's, they soon stop being a distraction, with the other compensating features. I found I missed the full street naming on the screen at first, and the street 'drawings' a little jagged and jerky, with the low-level view in 3D Panarama, but soon got quite used to it, and now much prefer the overall visual impact to my previous units (and you can have more street info now with the upgrades). Occasionally, it's sad to confess, I found myself admiring the Panarama screen instead of concentrating on the real scenery!

If you are trying to decide between lower/higher-end models, it is also worth using the (international) Navigon site to do a 'product comparison'. The lower specification models may well have the features you really need, and several of those standard on the 7xxx/8xxx are available as pay-for extras anyway. The main exceptions are the 8xxx's bigger screen and the 3D Panorama View.
