|

Hi I have just bought a Navman S50 from Amazon and I have a few questions which I hope someone will be able to answer.
1) Do I need to install the SP1 update or would it be up to date? After installing the NavDesk software on my pc I clicked on check for updates and it says my system is up to date. When I turn my Navman on it says v1.00.0014 and my NavDesk is v5.00.0039.57.
2) Does anyone know how old the safety cameras are when you buy the unit, or know a way of how to find this out?
3) How good or how old are the maps on the S series? I ask this because there is a mini roundabout that was put in locally with new traffic lights about 7 years ago which the S50 does not seem to know about. Also there is another local mini roundabout which my old ICN 520 knew about but the S50 does not seem to know it is there.
Thanks in advance.
Russ.

I have answered the first question myself now, I thought there was no harm in dowloading the SP1 patch from Navman and installing it which I did. As soon as I plugged the S50 into the pc after installing the download on to my pc, it said there is new software available and asked me if I wanted to upgrade it, which I did. Not sure what the point is of having a check for upgrade function when it says there is not an upgrade available when there is. |

The mapping is TeleAtlas 2007.4 release, so as up to date as most current sat nav systems, if not newer
The current release is 2007.10
Missing data is a mapping issue with TeleAtlas rather than the unit, and you can check they've updated their data online at www.teleatlas.com or report it if its still not updated
The Navdesk doesnt pick up the latest Service Pack because it was a complete overwrite of the desktop software, rather than a simple patch |

Not entirely sure on the speed camera data issue, because I subscribe to the Navman database, they have already been updated
Would guess however, they were set with software launch - around September last year?
Will find very reliable for fixed cameras, not so for mobile |

keep in mind that mobile camera locations with any sat nav are the locations given to the map developers by the law in the public sector, and not an "exact" location its only the rough area. |

SP2 from Navman is now available for download (via website, not the NavDesk software) |

There is no such disclosure requirement and Safety Cam Partnerships do not 'give' map makers or sped camera database authors any such data! _________________ Darren Griffin |
