Im not sure about this so Im gonna ask, in the bid that some of you guys might know or point me in the right direction.
I would like to know if you can manually update the postal codes file in the zip folder as and when later updates become available.
I cant seem to find anything about this on tomtoms site or find any links etc pointing to this. It also doesnt give any information on the tomtom home application or whilst updating.
Thanks In Advance

You can if you can get the files you just replace them in the file named zip in the root of your device. |

Thanks, Not really sure that i have got my head round this though. But, I would of thought that these update files would be somewhere accesible ie. tomtom etc . As new buildings & developments are being constructed all the time.
Question is now, where do I find them? |

True but we had this a while ago, some people buying new maps were getting old postcode files. TomTom started to leave the version file out of the file so people perhaps wouldn't know.
Don't ask me why they did this but generally the postcode files are not seen seperately although people have made them available it is not really allowed in your TomTom licence.
Here endeth the sermon.
Thought i would mention it before you get your head bitten off. |

Ok thanks, Seems a little strange though that they dont include updated postal codes with new maps.
The reason I was asking was that I recently purchased a one xl and updated the map using the latest map guarantee option to uk 7.15, I tried searching for a hotel that was around a few streets within in a town.
Its unable to find them by searching by city/street but you can actually find them on the map when your navigating to them from point on the map.
I presumed that this was maybe something to do with a out of date postcode file which i located in the zip folder; hence my reason for asking. Although its possible that its a flaw somewhere else. |

When I updated my map to v7.15 Home offered me updates of the 2 new postcode files. Have you tried it through Home? _________________ David

Yes, I completed the update through home when I purchased the device but it never mentioned anything about postcode update etc.
Did it do this automatically for you or did you have to select a particular update option on the software? |

sorry Lightforce, i feel you may have misunderstood what i said.
YES, you do get postcode files with the maps they are in the Zip file.
There are two files for each country GB& NL, one contains the postcodes the other tells you what version the files are. TomTom started to leave this version file out so people were none the wiser if they had the latest postcode files or not.
I have 7.15 maps on my 720T and the versions are 701 for GB and 707 for NL. |

And just to confirm
The Post Code Files supplied with the V8 Maps on the 930 are
701 UK & 707 NL Modified 03/2007
The same as they were with the V7 715 maps
and before that the V7 710 Maps.
So a bit out of date then!!!! |

Home automatically came up with them after I had upgraded my maps. _________________ David

Interestingly both of mine are 701 not 707 NL. _________________ David

Once you know what versions you have, report back and we will try the link TT supply for the latest versions complete with ver files.
I won't post it until we know you need it because it is a bit fiddly to get. Unless you are logged into the TT website it will not allow you access. |
