Hi to all,

I’ve Just purchased my first sat nav because I have no directional sense what so ever haha Very Happy

Now the model I’ve purchase is called a ‘Wizard God CPND-4302S’ which I bought online from Japan. I chose it because not only has it got Bluetooth built in for hands free on the road, it also comes with (Freeview TV) !!! Which is great. In addition to the TV it’s also able to play a variety of files for example: MP3, WMV, AVI, MPEG, MPG, MP4 etc list goes on.... meaning im able to watch any movies on the road which I may have backed up on my computer. ‘well my passengers will anyway!

Link bellow:

Now the only problem I have, although this is a great product because I purchased it online from Japan, there’s a language barrier! And when asking questions ref updates etc no ones getting back to me?

What I’d like to ask every one firstly, has anyone ells purchased this same product?

Can anyone help me with regards to a GPS update’s please as certain roads i.e. my home address doesn't show up because it a fairly new estate. The version of Route 66 it’s using is v7.0.2091. Now does that mean it’s using - Navigator 7 pocket PC?? As my sat nav is running on WinCE.NET 4.2 OS. I have emailed route 66 but they were absolutely no help what so ever! If that is the case can I just simply download the latest up to date Europe maps and replace them with the ones on the SD card??

Another question is I’ve noticed that on some versions of route 66 they have speed camera alert systems data base? I can’t seem to find it on mine. Is it something I can maybe download and add on, or do I need a different version of route 66. Or even a different GPS software all together?

Apologies for the lengthy post above any help given would be greatly appreciated.

Smile

It would look as if your device is some form of embedded Windows device - not neccessarily a PDA.

According to the R66 website the latest maps for V7 are Q4 2005 - so uprading will probably not solve your problem. There is V8 coming out - available for Symbian based phones at present with (presumably) Windows based equipment to follow - but as to whether or not your device is going to be supported that is anyones guess - it's not listed on the V7 support list - which probably explains why they aren't getting back to you.

Did it come with Route66 distribution Media? Or is it some sort of 'unofficial' product?

IF (big if) you can get to the underlying operating system than you MAY be able to load somethng else - but what do you go for? TomTom6 will have mapping nearly as old as you have already (it hasn't been updated for over a year - and there is little to no possibility of newer version for PDAs). Same with IGo - V2008 has been delayed and the V2006 may have slightly newer maps - someone with this may be able to assist further.

That's a Chinese device btw not Japanese? We have Route 66 Speed Cameras, they are a subscription service though and as for updates they would have to come from Route 66 or the device manufacturer.

Thankyou both for replying to my post, really appreciate it.! Very Happy

Phil:
My sat nav came with Route66 pre loaded on the SD card, no CD or manual was provided, I presume the place where I bought it from (ebay) has one master copy which is being loaded onto these devices, as and when they are sold. The Version is 7.0.2091. Now I have already managed to download (Navigate7 v7.0.3489) haven’t checked it yet but I was hoping it may contain slightly more up to date maps, if it dose will it just be a case of replacing the Europe folder within the SD card directory?

I am also very interested in the possibility of maybe, as you mentioned getting to the underlying operating system and maybe loading Tom Tom on there instead. Is there any way you might be able to put me in the right direction as to how I go about doing this? As it is currently running on WinCE.NET 4.2 is it just a matter of replacing route 66 on my SD card with say Tom Tom software? Or is this me being really naive thinking it will be that simple? Will I need to some how hack into my GPS device to get to the underlying operating system.

Many Thanks Lee

Nothing specific to recommend.

If you can access the file structure when connected to a PC using ActiveSync (or equiv) then you may get a clue by poking around. There is a free piece of PC software that allows you to examine the registry of a windows PDA. This is called ceregeditor. Google for it - there are plenty of sites. If you are familiar with Windows registry then you should be able to find out what is being launched at start up. However these non-PDA devices are usually missing the main 'explorer type' window.

The 'new' version of R66 that you have downloaded should only be the application. Maps are obtained from the distribution CD or from the R66 web site - upon payment.
