|
|
I want to have a different alert noise for each of the major camera groups so that I know quickly if I'm looking for a mobile or a fixed Gatso or SPECS.
I though all this involved was getting appropriate noises in mp3 format, renaming them so that they matched the camera type. Say
pocketgps_uk_specs70.mp3
Then squirting them into the gps in the same folder as the .csv files.
Well I put everything onto the SD card. It then asked me if I wanted to transfer the files for the camera database into the main memory. I said yes.
The sounds do not appear to function.
My only guess it that it might be that if I'd said no to the file transfer it might have worked.
Am I right?
If so, how do I wipe the database off the internal memory without losing my favourites or are these something completely different.
Why am I such a techno-klutz?
TIA

Does the 360 feature an mp3 player?
When you renamed the file do you have corresponding csv and bmp files?
i.e.
pocketgps_uk_specs70.csv
pocketgps_uk_specs70.bmp
pocketgps_uk_specs70.mp3
Finally are you loading them to the SD card with POILoader or just copying them onto the card? |

OK. As the 360 does have an mp3 player you should be able to do this.
However to do it you must name the mp3 so it has the same name as the relevant camera file. So using your example above you must have them organised like
pocketgps_uk_specs70.csv
pocketgps_uk_specs70.bmp
pocketgps_uk_specs70.mp3
Then you need to use POILoader Click Here for the latest version to load the Camera files and mp3s to your 360.
Note: You must have at least version 2.4.1 of POILoader for this to work.
Once loaded when a you approach a camera the relevant alert should sound.... |

Yes, not that I use it.

Yes, those are the ones downloaded from the database here aren't they?

With the POI loader

I am using 2.4.2
And that's where the whole thing seems to go to worms. It still just makes the same pathetic beep for every camera.

Have you tried sending them to the Nuvi internal memory and not the SD Card? Shouldn't make a difference....

Also are these your mp3s or the ones from here (OK they are ogg files but can be converted to mp3)
If you are using your own mp3s what format are they in and can you play them through the mp3 player on the Nuvi?
The ability of the Nuvi to play mp3 alerts depends on it having the mp3 player in the first place - hence my question about can the 370 play mp3s.... If the files are in a format the player can't play then the chances are the alerts won't work either. Try the mp3 from the link above and see if they work.

Beep - Bong yup.
BUT!
I have just downloaded the latest database and on doing a sanity check realise that it is me who has cocked it all up by missing out the last underscore from the database file names when renaming the mp3 files.
As you can see above I have
pocketgps_uk_specs70.mp3
Whereas the csv file is
pocketgps_uk_specs_70.csv
Damn, damn, damn.
Sorry to have troubled you with such a stupid error.
*bangs head on desk*
Thanks for your help

Just for info, I have checked that the files I am using will play on the mp3 player of the Garmin by loading one individually (by card reader) onto the SD card and then browsing to it with the mp3 player, it works fine.
Here's hoping

Just to confirm for anyone else thinking of customising their 360/370 in this way, I can confirm that putting .mp3 files in your POI folder will generate the appropriate response providing that the .mp3 files have the same name as the files you want to associate them with AND you are using the latest version of POILoader.
Works fine on my 360. |

Also works with any Nuvi that features the mp3 player. There is an old Beta version of POILoader that will also support WAV files for some units that don't have an mp3 player. |
