1. UNCHECK Receiving All beams and you will be able to use the checkbox at the TomTom GPS utility. Use NMEA 0183v2 4800 and Native IR: and you should be fine.
2. If the Haicom GPS receiver does not start flashing, it either does not have power or it is broken. When the red led starts flashing it is looking for satelites but does not have a fix yet. When it has a fix the red led will stop flashing and illuminate continuesly.
3. See 1.
Hope this helps. |

Thanks Altius,
I just tried all you suggested but still no success.
I left it ON for 10 minutes but it still didn't find any sats.
Thinking that the problem was with the IR, I opened up the settings and put the tick back into the "Receive all data" box, checked that the Haicom was still on the same settings with the box ticked, and tried again.
Still nothing.
I did see the red lights flashing on the mouse though.
I have used the same Haicom GPS unit with an Ipaq 3630 in the same location so actually seeing the sats isn't the problem.
Any more clues, or have I just got a dodgy unit?
Cheers,
Steve |

If your Haicom is flashing then there should be data being send out to the Ipaq. To check you can try two things:
1st: to check if IR data is send out at all: use a digital camera or web cam and point it to the IR-led sending out data. You will have to see a white light being send out of the IR-led. If it doesn't, your unit doesn't work.
2nd: if the first step was successfull, install a terminal emulator program on your PDA (like Pocketty from Dejavu which has a five minute trial version) and configure it to open the Native IR: port at 4800 baud, no parity, 8 bits, 1 stopbit. If you look at the data appearing on the screen it should look something like:
$RMVTG,455,3456,56,45678,4466,46
$RM...........
without any strange charaters.
If this is the case everything is working correctly and you have a TomTom config issue.
Hope this helps. |

I've edited out the "size" element of your first post, geordie - I hope that helps everyone.
Are we sure that "Native IR" is the right port setting? That sounds like it could be a raw IR setting. On most iPAQs (though I'm not familiar with the 1910), the 'cooked' IrCOMM port has a COM port number - often COM2: or COM3:.
It may be worth trying any other selectable COM ports - it can't hurt, anyway.

Can anyone confirm whether the kit is compatible with copilot live pocket pc 5? I've seen loads of conflicting advice on other forums - so I was advised to try you guys.
Thanks

Hi,
can someone tell me if this infrared connection is reliable? Can you use it in sunlight without any problems? Is there anything else negative about this cradle? Please give me a short review.
Thank you very much!

hi,
I have a ipaq 1930 and have purchased a acc pda haicom amplified infrared mount for the 1900 series.
Everything seems to be working but I do not get the signal through to the ipaq.
I have tried the setttings suggested all ready without success so can someone advice me.
If I set it to haicom gps and bluetooth the gps box on the ipaq will not tick and it states unit disabled.
any assistance would be appreciated. |
