Well Here we go

Bear with me I will be doing this in sections as I back up and do some other stuff

So first post is just unboxing

Now backing up will do some compaison photos once that is done

Iitial comments
/
TMC Unit 2.006 ? as per sticker on bag

Maps Europe 1.79gb
NA 1.43gb

So maps are back down to roughly the 710 size rather than the 715 downloads

Will do side by side comparisons soon, first job is to so if TMC is better

Here are photos of the first TMC test

Sat on drive planned route from Mansfield to London

Make of that what you will! Detailed time delays but only one delay on front screen

EDIT - Photos swapped for screengrabs

Connected to TT HOme Software updated to V8.002 No Visible difference

The UI Is like treacle it is so slow it is almost unusable at the moment

The Front screen now seems to have a much thicker anti glare surface which sticks to your finger and feels like it is coming away with your finger when you touch the screen. Very strange sensation

Could I suggest the following for screenshots, rather than using a camera?

Posted by "The Spook" on tomtomforums.com:
"1. Attach your TT to a PC, and choose to open/explore the TT,
2. Create a new folder in the root directory of your TT, and call it 'screen' (without quote marks),
3. Go into the new 'screen' directory, right-click and choose 'New..' Text Document, type 'capture' (no quote marks) then hit enter, then enter again at the prompt (are you sure you want to, blah, blah??).
4. Safely eject/remove the TT from the PC.

Now (here comes the clever bit!), whenever you want to capture the screen, just press the top-left corner of the TT screen. You will hear a 'camera' noise. An image (or images) of the screen is now saved in the screen folder you created!
"

You do lose the ability to zoom out in nav mode, but it's a small price to pay in my opinion.

And maybe edit/obscure your location details a bit?

I notice the delays only show the length of queues and not the time.

Just tried centre of Mansfield to centre of London on my TT720 with traffic (using the Internet via Home at the moment).... so I have later more upto date info but there are major delays.

For city centre to city centre the distance shown on the summary screen is 143m and delays are currently saying 3 hours 2 minutes! Total journey is 5 hours 46 minutes arriving at nine!

Can you confirm the model numbers on the bottom of the unit along with the FCC ID & IC numbers. This will confirm if the hardware is the same as the x20 range due to the approval standards.

IC 5767A-GO520

Model go930 4ch9.000

The FCC and IC are the same as the *20 Range

So it looks like the only difference is the software/firmware/maps/colour of plastic.

First Bug Found is that

The unit has been supplied with Spanish Portuguese French & Italian Voices, only

I have downloaed the UK Voices but as the 930 is using a slightly different version of Loqudo TTS it will not recognise the downloaded UK voices, so at the moment stuck with no TTS Voices,

Support are looking into it but seem a bit stumped at the moment

That's what Vicky is already doing - you don't get great screenshots like that with a camera!

That voices "bug" looks like the reason Pixmania have it for sale so early - I'd guess it's been brought over from France!

Ah well, Mon amie, c'est la guerre!

A few years back when looking into the purchase of a digital SLR camera Pixmania had some good prices... but then I found they often shipped non-UK stock which affected warranty so I went elsewhere.

I wonder if the voice problem for TTS is this was stock destined for Europe and not the UK (yet) and once TomTom update their downloads you'll be back to working okay?

TT Support have confirmed it has only been offically released in France/Italy and they were suprised that pixmania were supplying the UK but hey they are retailer and see a fast buck by being first!!!
