I have two PC's both running XP Pro.

On one the Nuvi 760T is instantly recognised when plugged into a USB socket.

On the other it shows as an unknown device and the New Hardware Wizard does nothing to sort the problem.

Has anyone else experienced this, please?

Tony

Never seen this problem before. Garmin support in the UK are usually pretty helpful if you get them in a good mood on their support phone line - why not try them and see if they can help?

Have you tried different USB ports on the PC that doesn't 'like' the Nuvi ?

How many times have you tried it with the PC that is not playing ball? Tried a full re-boot before you plug in the Nuvi?

Marco,

I have been trying all the latter alternatives for weeks now.

I have not phoned Garmin as I am convinced it is a PC problem.

But thanks anyway.

Plug the device in, goto Device Manager and right click the Unknown Device.

Click Uninstall and wait for any confirmation.

With the Nuvi still plugged in shut down the PC. Once shut down unplug the Nuvi and restart the PC. Give Windows a few minutes to get all processes and services running. Then switch the Nuvi on and plug the Nuvi in to the PC again.

Let us know how that goes.

Thanks Paul,

I did what you suggested and got no nearer to connecting the Nuvi correctly.
