|
|
Hi,
After talking to Paul today I plumped for a Nuvi 250W.
So,
It found my way home from Halfords, it even found the local cameras on the way ( it did get quite cross when I deliberately ignored turnings, but RECALCULATED very quickly, even as I went into a roundabout instead of TURNing right just before.. very good) and it had no problem getting a signal whilst in the caddy down low by the gear lever.
I connected to the PC and Garmin website.
I registered
I downloaded my 30 day cam trial
I downloaded webupdater and got the latest software update.
So what next?
Is there any other download I should be getting.. voices, useful software updates, anything at all to make my day.

WebUpdater will get you all the updates so run it once a month and see what's appropriate.
The next move it to backup your Nuvi. With it plugged into your PC copy the entire contents on the Nuvi drive to a folder on your PC and burn a copy to DVD (just in case). This will take time (my Nuvi 760 took just over an hour) and if you are not sure how to do this - ask.
After that see how you go with the Garmin camera database. Consider PGPSW own databases with all it's advantages (including the chance to obtain a FREE Lifetime Subscription, which Garmin don't offer) Also have a look at the POIs PGPSW offer and see if you might want / use any. You'll need to download POILoader for the Cameras and the POIs. |

OK thanks Paul,
For backing up, is it just a matter of copying the Garmin folder to the PC ?
I started to do this as soon as I plugged it in but it was going to take a while and I then realised I hadn't yet updated it, so stopped.
I am somewhat surprised at the lack of proper user manual to download.. is there a full manual anywhere ?
I've found answers to some of my questions by looking at the FAQ but its things like changing cam warnings ( going too fast or always on).
Any useful tips would be .. useful |

Hi,
I'm keeping up with this thread as I'm very keen on the 250W as well, for the wife. I did a quick search and found this: http://www8.garmin.com/manuals/1512_SetupandGo!.pdf - don't know if it's the same manual that comes with your unit or not? Or indeed if it's any good to you whatsoever as it does say "Nuvi 200 series" rather than 250W specific. |

Thanks for your input, but that seems to be the quick start manual that comes in 50 languages in the box and on website. Pity they couldn't sit down and publish a proper manual.... I'll post any useful info I find out but I am sure there are many experts on this Forum who are very willing to help with any problems.
Looking at the thread for modifying voice files at the moment..
P.S. Take note that it doesn't come with a case, mains charger or USB cable.. but it uses a standard camera USB and will charge on the PC.. will find a suitable case at the market I spose. Most importantly tho. it seems to work fine. |
