I have made a custom BMP file 24x24 for use with my own POIs. Until last week it was a magenta (255,0,255) square with a green circle which displayed as a green circle on the map.

Now since the new POILoader release it displays the icons as magenta squares with a green circle. Whatever i do i can't seem to design an icon with transparency...

Weird thing is i took GerryC's improved Speed Camera icons and made the white corners transparent so they have a rounded corner effect, and the transparency still works on those icons! I hadn't changed either icon and the only thing that had changed was the POILoader.

I'll get some screen shots tomorrow, but is any one else having the same problem?

Any tips as to where i might be going wrong? Type of icon etc?

Using IconFX http://icofx.xhost.ro/

OK so POILoader doesn't seem to be to blame. Reverted back to 2.4.2 and same problem.

What i don't understand in that I've used the Magenta colour to round the corners of GerryCs icons and they seems to work fine.

In the screenshot above the white tips on GerryCs icons are transparent because i've coloured them magenta, but my green circle is filled with Magenta.

I've tried starting with a new 24x24x8 icon. I must be doing something wrong if it works with one icon and not the other.

Here are two fictitious cameras. One with the original GerryC icon with white corners (Left) and one with my Magenta (transparent) corners (Right). Both are loaded at the same time.

One day my green circle worked the next it didn't....

Any ideas?

Paul, Mine were made in Paint (yes really Smile ) and saved in 8 bit colour (256 colours). It could be that the icons you are making have a different colour depth etc.

By the way, thanks for showing me your creations a while ago - when TomTom gets their act together, I may make transparent ones myself. As a better improvement, I'd suggest making the lightest red on the outside transparent as well - will look better with the dark background. Cool .

I thought that's what i was doing with IcoFx. I made the changes to your icons with IcoFx - funny how those icons are ok and that the green circle icon worked fine for 3 weeks and then stopped working without changes....

I'll try it. The reason i'm showing it on the black (night) background is because it shows up the white / clear corners better.

Hey! That worked! Thanks. I thought the IcoFX program would be better but obviously not....

Thanks again

Paul, if you send me the icons you were having trouble with I can run them through Photoshop and see if I can figure out what the issue was?

IcoFX saves bmps in 24bit colour so is "better" (no other options for bmp exports). It's just too good Laughing . Personally, I always try to use an application that is native for the file type so it's Paint for bmp files and IcoFx for ico ones.

Next mini-project is using IcoFx and I've found it easy to use and even had an email discussion with the developer about a problem I found. He was quick responding - providing the answer within a day.

Ah!! So even if i opened a new blank file and specified 24x24x8 it still Exports in 24x24x24?? Weird because i'm sure i made the original icon in IcoFX and was surprised how easy it was. It worked perfectly for several loads onto the Nuvi and then suddenly yesterday i noticed this..... Must have my time line mixed up somewhere....

This problem has bugged me ever since I've had a Nuvi. Have just tried your 8-bit solution, but still can't produce 'invisible.' What luminance and saturation settings are you guys using?

ETA Hmmm...just realised you can't change those settings without changing the colour, so don't really know where I am still going wrong.

Sussed it. Just realised I was using a really old version of POILoader.

Doh!
