The Play.com (Toshiba ) 4gb at a tad over 8 squiddlies works fine with no fomratting etc.

Formratting? Is that new?

You only need to "formratt" 8GB or larger cards, 4GB should work straight out of the packet as you have found - Mike

Well here's to no formratting then Laughing although I am sure I have read somewhere that peeps have had to do a format on some 4gig cards Wink

I think you've read that people have DONE a format, rather than they've HAD to do one!

I've seen quite a few posts where people have said "I bought an SD card, formatted it and put the software on..." as if that was something you just had to do (like with old floppy disks, before they came up with the idea of selling them pre-formatted! Laughing )

Every memory card I've ever bought has come formatted and ready to go, AFAIK, it's only this issue with TomToms and 8GB cards that needs it.

I think also that there has been issues with some older card readers not being able to cope with the newer SDHC cards

You are quite correct, only card readers that are marked with the SD SDHC logo will work reliably with both types of memory card, that said quite a few cards of the new type are supplied with the correct adaptors these days, SanDisk certainly supply readers and adaptors with their cards if purchased from reliable sources - Mike
