If I can add my two penn'orth. Last week I drove from Cambridge to Harrogate on the A1. I was using my old TomTom Go (original).
There were large roadworks at the Wetherby exit from the A1 and the slip road was closed. Diversion signs sent you about another 10 miles up the road before you could exit.
I did the same trip again this weekend, but with my new TomTom Go 720T. Using the RDS lead, my trip showed three instances of roadworks, (which have been on for months), but there was no mention of the large scale disruption at Wetherby. My TomTom still wanted to exit on the slip road that was firmly shut.
Have I wasted my money by having a T on the end?

I also notice that in terms of how the 'plain grey' lanes, as they show now, no longer give an DIRECTION of issue fault.

You are all exactly correct - what matter whether it be a single car accident, a fire, or black ice, that caused the crash - it is the TIME it is going to hold us up, that should matter to us.

But, er, don't none of you think it highly important we know which SIDE of the road, and thus which DIRECTION it is affected, so as to know if we will even be troubled by an incident at all if it is only in one direction, as many often are???

Yes, of course, direction is important - that's what we've been saying.

We want to know whether there's a delay that affects us and, if so, how long that delay is.

Length of delay being the key, not cause.

In order to know whether there is a delay, then surely the directional information is fundamental to that, not a bolt-on extra.

Delays affecting us on our side of the carriageway, ie not delays on the other carriageway which don't affect us.

Thus, directional information is fundamental to any delay information.

So fundamental, in fact, that it was probably not specifically mentioned.

Also, there was no colour scheme mentioned anywhere for delays on the opposite carriageway, I/we probably just assumed it was taken as read that we want to know about delays affecting our carriageway.

EDIT - would it not also be safe to say that if traffic info was performing reliably, we needn't worry about direction because the delays given ought to only be the ones affecting our route, not the opposite carriageway.

A clear indication the there's still some considerable way to go before traffic info is working correctly.

Absolutely, and if they got the information CORRECT, then it ought to display a delay along your route caused by the rubbernecker effect.

If there's a delay on the opposite carriageway which isn't affected you journey, then it's of little consequence. However, if an incident on the opposite carriageway is causing a delay on your carriageway then, in an ideal world, it ought to show up on both carriageways.

I'm a naiive innocent. In all my experience with Traffic, the incidents have only ever "reported" when they affect my side. I have OFTEN seen Traffic on the opposite carriageway not affecting my side and thus the delay was NOT reported by TMC, even though it WAS marked on the map - it happened only last weekend. I don't know of any directional problem. I've always thought it was directional in so far as it only warns of Traffic en route (like cameras, only it works!). As for the arrows and/or animation? Cute, but no cigar - who cares? Like animation of the icons on my Desktop - wow! they jump up and down when my cursor passes over them. I don't really mind because they WORK. I'll put up with Bill Gates' animated icons ONLY so long as they work.

EDIT To see a directional thingy which works, navigate both directions of the M42 and you'll see delay southbound for the roadworks, none northbound for no roadworks (if it hasn't changed since the weekend).
