Solar Panel

Just a thought but being as we have to put SatNav devices quite high up and in sight of satelites, why don't they include a small solar panel on the devices to help keep the internal battery topped up ?

I know it would add to the overall size of the unit but by how much ?

If a unit with a typical battery life of 4 hours could be extended to say 6 hours then most of us presumably wouldn't need trailing cables most of the time.

Ah but you don't need to place them high up any more. Besides any solar panel that would contribute any real juice would be much larger than the device itself, the tiny panels advertised as being able to top up a mobile etc work but only if you leave them in the sun for 20+hrs!
