Hi everyone I have a Ipaq 3870 running TomTom 5 for my job.I bought this recently and used it for one day only before it stopped working. When I try and start TT the PDA comes up with a Green screen with a legal notice on It(about setting up while moving)and the only way to get rid of this screen is to remove the card so the programme does not load. Hope this makes sense to someone as I am getting fed up with using maps all day. Please feel free to contact me via the forum.
TIA

Chris, Welcome to the forum, you might have noticed I have removed your e-mail address from the post as its not a good idea to put it within forum text as it can attract spam.
Is the ipaq trying to load the TomTom software each time you use the PDA or when you select the TomTom application you just get the legal screen? This could be as simple as the read/ write access switch being in the locked position on the memory card or it could be that the currentmap.cfg or mapsettings.cfg file on the memory card in the map folder is set to read only - Mike |

Mike,Thanks for the welcome. Everytime I turn it on I get the legal screen, how do I find the read/write access switch or the other thing to find out if it is either of them??

Take the SD memory card out and look at the card with the notched corner top right, there is a small switch on the left side of card make sure this is in the up position.
If you have a card reader pop the card into it and use Windows Explorer to view the contents of the card, locate the map folder, it will be named something like Great_Britain or Western_Europe etc, and is a folder on the card, open the folder, now locate the MapSettings.cfg or currentmap.cfg file (it will be named one or the other), right click it and select Properties, make sure the read only attribute checkbox isn't selected - Mike |

Mike, did as you said and put the card in the card reader and found the Great Britain map file but when I unchecked the read only box it came back as soon as I removed the screen and went back to the Great Britain file.Does this sound right,I am definitely not an expert when it comes to this sort of thing so bear with me

OK try right clicking the map folder itself within Windows Explorer and make sure that isn't set to read only, then go to the cfg file and deselect that from read only, pop the card back in the device and see if it will retain settings.
It could be the map folder has somehow been made read only in which case all files within it might have the same attribute set by association - Mike |

I have had same problem on my mio, the only way i could do it was to copy the file(s) to pc and change the atributes there, then delete file on card and then copy file(s) from pc to card, I did wonder whether it is something to do with the conversion over activsync in my case. |

With this PDA of mine TT 5 was already installed,I suppose it would be best to buy a new disc etc and reinstall it,then if it goes wrong again it can be reinstalled again and again
