Hi there!

I currently have a tomtom go 300 and i have to admit its abit out of date now and needs upgrading to a newer tomtom.

I am Looking at the Go 720T. I was reading on the tomtom website with the 720T you get free traffic updates for life, is that via traffic plus/mobile or via RDS TMC Traffic Receiver?

If its through RDS TMC Traffic Receiver does the traffic show on your tomtom.. is it FM radio speach or actual icons on your tomtom screen?

Is the TomTom 720T worth paying more for than the standard 720 and is it worth buying at all? What new stuff has come to this new tomtom range?

Thanks in advance!
Very Happy

First, the GO300 is a great device. Some of us, including me, think the GO300/500/700 have yet to be beaten for reliability and stability. Search for 720 and have a long read of how it has been received.

The 720T is a big step "up" from the 300, more than two years on.

The traffic comes via FM, piggy-backed onto radio stations like Classic FM. It shows as icons on your screen, with optional voice alerts spoken by the built in Computer Voice and secondary screens with details. It offers the option to route round any traffic problems. It's free for life in that the broadcasts are free and all you need is the aerial which comes in the GO720T box. The ordinary 720 requires subscription (annually renewable) to TomTom PLUS Traffic service, plus Bluetooth connection via a compatible mobile phone with GPRS capability.

There have been "issues" over the RDS-TMC service ever since it was introduced. Quite a number of us are unhappy with it. Rather than offer my biased opinion here, I suggest you do a search on RDS-TMC and spend time reading up on it. Two current quite hot threads are :-

Personally, I have often recommended BBC Radio 5 Live as being at least as accurate and free!

Just to make you aware there is a new version of the Tomtom( X30 series) coming out in the next few months whether it is worth waiting for the upgraded version is debatable .

The decision is yours !!! they will always be a new model on the horizon its just a case of if the new features that will be available appeal to you .

It may be a case that the benefits of the new model may be available to previous owners in time ???
