I purchased a new 610T with GTM21 from a ebay shopsept last year and the gtm21 dont work.
The gtm wont display a green led, I know its the cable coz I tested mine with a m8s.
I contacted Garmin whom supplied a 2008 map update free of charge. and they claim because it was bought from ebay and I didnt keep the till receipt its out of warrenty.
Its taken 8 calls 4 emails and me sending the GTM21 to get that far.
now they want £28.00 to repair it.
How do I open the GTM21 to examine the wiring.
Has this been done, is it in the 12 volt plug assy or mid way through the assy.
Shouldve bought another TT.
What crap customer service (sales pervention).
I have nothing to loose, I could purchase a new one from ebay under £40.00, but it would annoy me if it was a loose wire. |

is it the fuse? they have a diagramme in the manual i think for taking apart the top of the gtm21 to replace it.
Perhaps you can get at the wires that way.
unless it is one big continuous lump of plastic, you should be able to pop off the outer casing and just undo the screws holding the wires in place (or solder or whatever) and re strip the wire and re attach it. |

Nope its not the fuses as the unit is powered by the supply,
It must be the moulded plastic lump located midway,
Ill heat it off and have a hack.
See what i can find. |

Before you do this be careful - the plastic lump probably contains active components - too much heat will cause problems. Have you checked the connection to the second LED in the plug? It could simply be a wiring fault at that end.
£28 seems a relatively small price to pay to get back a working GTM21 - they will probably ship you a new one as there doesn't appear to be any easily servicable components in it.
Have you tried getting a duplicate recipt from the vendor? _________________ Phil |
