Bird_FAT, I wouldn't mind so much if the mediaplayer functionality was a 'surprise' extra but they sell it based on this as a feature. The fact that the volume has been locked on full for several versions now resulting in distortion on most FM tuners drives me nuts. I wish they'd just get a programmer to spend a couple of days on it to get it back to what it was in previous versions in latest releases. The argument was over volume being too low. Making volume FIXED too high is hardly a bug fix! And locking the volume at full but leaving volume sliders is just lazy programming.

I'm still on some old version (upgraded then went back) because I swap between my car, hire cars abroad on business and my motorhome and the dream of taking entertainment in the form of music and podcasts with me only realises itself by sticking with the old versions. Drives me nuts.

My company sells software based products and if we had simple bugs like this for so long we'd sell nothing.

Totally agree!
My preferred solution (which I've been prodding TomTom with every so often!) is to have a simple "Volumes" page with a bunch of sliders like you have for your Windows PC soundcard.
Total control and everyone is happy!

I even did a mock-up for them:

...and if that wasn't enough for everything (Bluetooth?), turn them vertical!
The "normal Volume slider could then become an "overall" or "master" level.

They also desperately need to sort out the navigation instructions always muting the jukebox output on line out and FM. Sometimes the instructions come so thick and fast, you hardly get to hear the mp3s at all!
They give you the option of whether to mute or not on the Bluetooth output, why not the others?

I wish everyone who thinks this is a pain would report it to TomTom... it's the only way to get them to change things.

It's a shame that such a wonderful idea will probably never even make it as far as the programmers. I DREAM of a menu page like that!

I suspect things like that get glanced at by the 1st line support bods for just long enough to generate the automatic "Thank you for your feedback, your input is important to us" email... Crying or Very sad

Andy,
I think we'd all love to see more control of the volume for different functions. It's a bit like the separate "INFO" volume setting that we all have on our RDS car radios for traffic broadcasts etc. I'm looking at adding the silent voice onto my 720 to silence or just "beep" the navigation turn signals when driving on familiar routes but still leaving the speed camera volume on max. Can't remember where I saw those voice downloads now Rolling Eyes

Cheers

Here's a couple of links for silent voices:

http://www.gpsice.co.uk/silentvoice.html

This one says it doesn't pause mp3s at all. Not sure how it manages that, as most of them do....

Brickie. On the 720, if you go into voice preferences, you can kill the voice. the mp3 doesn't get interrupted then. CoPilot

Doh! Didn't spot he had a 720! That's exactly what I do on mine...

Change preferences / Voice preferences / Disable voice

For around a week now my 920 has been refusing to update anything.
Keeps claiming "there's a fault with the internet may be busy try later" Been like it as I say for a week.
Tomtom ver 8.010
bought UK and Ireland in map sale recently ver 720.183
Tried updates on the North America map and UK and Western Europe map and it's just not happening.
Anyone any ideas?
My 920 has been very slow to boot up since the last big update

If there's nothing you found which is a "must-have" improvement with v8, go back to v7?

I'm always inclined to always want the latest software for everything. The TomTom has taught me to be a little more cautious!

I'm still getting updates as normal (i.e. slowly Laughing ) for my 720 on v7.221.

Anyone think there is any chance at all of V8 being released for those of us still using GO x10 series?
