She appears on my list on the tomtom unit but there is no sound after applying the latest update 5 days ago. The human voices work. Also there is no sound warning of speed cameras. I have enabled warnings using the speed cameras menu in the device - I have tried changing the sound alerts but when I try to change them there is no sound i.e clicking on 'Beep1' 'Beep2' 'Polite1' etc. there is no sound - I think the update has wiped the computer voice and all the sound alerts off the device Mad

Can you look at the the device using Windows Explorer, open the LoquendoTTS folder then EnglishGb this is where the TTS Kate voice is found (the folder is 43,9MB in size, for a working Kate voice), you can re-install the voice by inserting the CD that came with the device and use TomTom Home on the PC to put the voice back on the device - Mike

Some in North America are reporting a loss of Voice Recognition when they installed firmware 7.4x on their 720's this week.

I have 2 backups - 1) In a folder 'Original Tomtom backup' 2) In 'TomTom'

The first folders path is Original Tomtom backup/HOME/backup//GO/backup1/InternalMemory/LoquendoTTS/EnglishGb/Kate - This folder is 43.9 Mb

the English Gb folder has a Kate.vde file

There is also a separate InternalMemory/Voices folder with the following files Data04.chk and .vif / Data05 & 121 &162

The 'TomTom' folder has the same files

Do I just drag and drop these files into the Tomtom device like using it as a hard drive.

I cannot see the contents of my Tomtom at the moment until I get home as I don't have the dock with me

I can't find where the sounds are located on the back ups - a speed camera warning with no audible sound is useless!!!

I would try Andy's suggestion first before messing around copying files, give a reset a try and report back if the unit is still being troublesome - Mike

I have a similar issue on my 710, I have just done the latest update v7.162, TomTom has rebooted and the first thing it says is the voice you selected is not available. I have tried a reset but to no avail, I have checked the LoquendoTTS folders on my backup and on the device and they are identical, what's also wierd is that in TomTom Home under voices it shows the Kate and Simon voices, but they are listed as being v6.7 is this relevant, they worked fine until I did the update?

I could be wrong and I am sure some one will be along to correct me if I am. I thought TT disabled TTS in the 710 in one of their firmware updates/

Spot on. Wink

Pre x20 Devices the TTS system was only licensed for the 910.

Also worth checking that sound isn't being routed to an external speaker or FM transmission.

Sounds obvious, but I had the same issue a while back and noticed by chance that the sound was being sent over FM transmission rather than the internal speaker - even though I hadn't selected this option. It's not happened since, so I reckon it was probably me accidentally selecting it sometime, but something I'll remember to check if I have the problem again...

edit... ignore me, just re-read your symptoms and don't think it's the same thing I'm talking about after all! oops!

I found by chance that it is possible to Add new computer voices to the Go using Home, not on the 'Add new voices' icon under 'Add Maps, Voices etc.' but on the second page, where it says 'Add new computer voices'!

They're all about 45MB files though, but I have deleted Kate and have Simon installed instead, with Willem also installed ready for my Netherlands trip...
