| In TT 6.03 Map 675 1409 shows the river going through the centre of York City but map 675 1322 does not. is this just a quirk of the two maps or is there a way to get the river to be seen in both maps. 675 1322 is the more up to date, but things like that make it much harder to use as a travel aid when walking around a city. |

Normally different build numbers are different versions of the same map for different devices. I'm not sure which device 1409 and 1322 are for but it could be that 1322 is for a device with smaller memory. The first things that are dispensed with when making a driving map smaller is things like waterways that have no bearing on routing road traffic. 
The TT devices are more geared to the driver than the walker so this would be acceptable.

| I think you will find that 1322 is a navteq map and 1409 is a Teleatlas, you do not say if either is UK or Western Europe, it would appear to reflect that 1322 is WE and 1409 is UK and in my area 1322 is roadwise more upto date, but 1409 uk does show more detail. |

That does not change the fact that they are 'geared' towards use in vehicle. The options exists but it does not make it a system 'designed' or intended primarily for pedestrians!

It is still only walking along roads, not off-road, all it seems to do is ignore junction and road restrictions and use a slower speed. |

Quite, in pedestrian mode it will also ignore one-way systems. It is a by product of a system designed for use in vehicles primarily with perhaps the 'occasional' use by an owner out of the car.

Agreed and we have complained about this loss of detail when they compress maps to fit into certain specific size constraints.
It's not just water that gets left out, the urban area shading and woods/forest designations also get purged.

| It does seem a little bit unneccesary considering the lowering prices and increasing capacities of memory cards nowadays. I suppose its the price of progress in todays world, as little as possible for the greatest income. |

| I suppose it is also about compatibility, whilst there may be large sizes of memory cards about, not all devices can use them and so there will often be a size limit such as 1GB that they try to keep certain maps under. |
