Hi guys

I'm trying to back up a TomTom Go 700 and the backup fails every time whilst trying to backup faces.dat from the Western and Central Europe folder.

The file is 327MB and backup stops with 255MB remaining followed by the following error message.....

"the request could not be performed because of an I/O device error"

it displays the following error code 0x8007045D:

This happens when I try to backup the 700 with either TomTom Home or Windows Explorer.

Have tried TomTom Support who just say 'copy the file using windows explorer' Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation

The 700 is working correctly so I doubt the file is corrupt.

Any help with this problem would be gratefully appreciated.

Hi.

Can you tell me exactly how you are doing the backup? Software etc. Also what version of Windows are you running?

Hi Paul, and yes, I'm using Windows Vista.

Have tried several times using the Backup feature in TomTom Home and also simply dragging and dropping using Windows Explorer with the same result each time.

All other files copy accross, only faces.dat fails. Sad

A few people who solved this point to this page for a solution

However it might be worth waiting for more people to respond. Some people may have dealt with this in a different way.

Thanks again Paul.

Have just tried copying the file using a Windows XP machine and get the same "the request could not be performed because of an I/O device error" message, though no error code this time.

Confused

Well i keep re-reading that link above and can't decide if it relevant or not....

Are the files on a card or internal memory / hard drive? If on a card do you have a card reader?

Hi Peter

This might seem a bit long winded but you could try this, when backing up using Explorer select all the files on your tom tom except the Western Europe folder and copythem to your backup folder on your PC then create a new Western Europe folder on your pc and invidually copy each file from your tom tom's Western Europe folder to your PC's Western Europe folder, hopefully your faces.dat file will copy if not you could ask tom tom support to send it, at least everything else will be backed up.

I hope that made sense.

Hi Shaun

All the files are backed up except faces.dat.

You're right, looks like I need to get TomTom to resend the file.

One other option (if applicable) - do you have an existing backup of the 700's drive on the PC or DVD? - this might have been made onto an older PC which you might still have - if so you can do as shaun has suggested and supplement the old backup copy of the rouge file, before performing a format of the drive on the 700 then copying the file set back to the unit - Mike

Hi Mike, and thanks.

Unfortunately, all the old backups are with the original Western Europe map.

This is the first backup attempted after downloading and installing the latest Western and Central Europe map.

I'm now thinking I need to contact TT and get them to create a new download for me, though I don't know how easy this will be. Sad

In which case the new map will be on the PC as the process is to download the map (which is stored to the hard drive of the PC) then install it - If you used TomTom Home for the download? - Mike
