What are the differences between the two?

Any one better than the other.

Is the USA variant or the UK variant both the same

The CSx has electronic compass and barometeric altimeter. The first option allows you to run the batteries down that much quicker

The base maps are different for the USA and European versions - but as both are fairly basic - it really doesn't matter which one you get as you will probably want to add additional mapping depending on what you intend to use it for.
