I am torn between these two. One of the differences is the TMC supplier and receiver. TT requires an ariel to be fixed to the screen, Garmin has it incorporated into the power cable. Garmin uses Trafficmaster TT uses ISIT.

Any views on the relative performance and ease of use of the TMC for each model?

Garmin also requires an aerial to be attached to the screen.

I'm not sure how it works on the TT but you plug the lead into the ciggy lighter and then run it up to the unit where it plugs into the side of the mount. Near the plug the traffic antenna splits off and runs along the windscreen. It quite unobtrusive and hides behind the wipers quite well.

The only thing i can say is that I've had my 760 for a little over 24 hours and I'm very impressed. The traffic takes a minute or so to get up and going but when it does the information was flooding in. I've yet to actually use any of the info but that'll probably change tomorrow....

Thanks Paul

That sounds like a very similar approach to the TomTom. I believe it too has an ariel that attaches to the screen with two suckers, either along the dash or up the side of the screen. I was hoping that the Garmin had an ariel in the powercable of something.

The trafficmaster data used by Garmin is very good - I have a standalone unit and it gives generally good data.

What made you choose the Garmin over other options?

Well, i had an i3 and never really regretted it. I considered a TT for the MapShare and a change, but the whole TT Home thing seems a right PITA. Just reading through the TT forum put me right off...

MaFt reported that the Traffic on the 760 just worked so i was sold on a Garmin again. Maybe next time a TT....

So Home is now costing potential sales from prospective customers, when it works it is usable, when it hangs or simply runs slow you have no idea what it is doing - Mike

This can be said of any software though. I realise that all software has problems and usually you only hear of the problems in forums, but some of the threads i read on Home put me off. I have used Home on a few occasions and find it a bit bewildering. I probably haven't given it the time it deserves but i just prefer the way Garmin handle their Device Management.

Thanks for the advice

Decided in the end to go with the TomTom. Reasons: newer product, voice commands, 4gb memory and more support in Europe. Difficult to choose - hope I have made the right decision.
