Connecting 520 to Car Stereo?

Hi I want to connect my TT520 to my car stereo to make use of the car speakers when playing movies via Mobilnova. My stereo has all its 3 pre-outs in use but I still have the original speaker output wires free so could theoretically use the stereo's internal amp to run the sound to the speakers.

What I need to know is what cable do I need to achieve this? I notice my 520 has 2 sockets underneath, I'm assuming 1 is for the external GPS aerial and the other for headphones, so will the headphone socket provide a sufficiently good output for what I want to achieve? Obviously this will limit me to only 2 car speakers, but that will at least be better than listening to the movie through the 520's internal speaker or the FM modulator (which I never good reception with).

The "normal" looking socket on the bottom (furthest from the USB socket) is a standard 3.5mm stereo jack. It's not a headphone output but a normal line-level out.
I plug it straight into the 3.5mm aux socket on the front of my car stereo so you should have no problems.
No need to buy the expensive TomTom iPod kit, just any 3.5mm stereo jack to 'whatever you need at the other end' cable from Maplins etc. Should be no more than a quid or two.

If you get interference when connected this way look at getting a "ground loop issolator" Maplins sell one. Or avoid wires all together by using the FM transmitter or even bluetooth (if your car deck will work with it) - Mike (Southbound on the M6)

Hi I've seen some 3.5mm jack to RCA plugs but I have no RCA's free on my stereo plus I have no line in either, so what other options do I have?

The Aux plug on the stereo is connected to my Kenwood changer, so not sure if i can get some kind of switching unit to use the TT as another Aux source.

What adapter you need will depend on the connections on your particular stereo system. Try asking a car audio fitter, they must get this sort of enquiry all the time.

Thanks, looks like I need the official Kenwood AUX switching module (almost £70! Shocked

). Now the sound quality will depend on the line output quality on the TT520 - does anyone know how good this is?

Shove some decent headphones into line out. I just tried my Go 520 with some Sennheiser HD520 cans and it sounds great. There is a volume option in the music player.

Yeah, the line out is pretty good... far superior to the FM output.

Will still be a bit quiet compared to the radio or CDs though, unless you've got the level of your mp3s "normalised" to be as loud as possible.
