hi, i am doing some research for university into satnav forensics. I have a garmin satnav and i was hoping you guys would be able to give me any hints and tips as to where the usefull information is? does anyone know where the recent destinations and things like that are stored?
i would be very grateful of your help guys

hi sorry for the double post but i think ive locaated a useful file in 'waypoints.gpx'. Does anyone know if this is a standard file across the garmin range? If you guys can offer any other helpful hints i would appreciate it! thanks |

yes i think it's standard.
however, it wouldn't stand up in court as where's the proof of who drove it? it only tells you where the sat nav went (not a person) and only if they chose a route and haven't deleted the history...

thanks for the reply, i was hoping that it would be a standard file! at least now i can begin to analyse its structure......not that its hard as its in xml, very glad about that! i realise it wouldnt stand up in court but theres only so much you can get from items. At least i will be able to retrieve all the possible information that the sat nav has to offer me. |

actually i think way[oints.gpx just shows your 'favourites' and not the actual last 'finds'? if you look on th device you would see the most recent 'finds' but they are just what have been found, nothing to say you actualy drove there
