Normal download works fine for me, but then again I don't try to grab entire categories! _________________ Darren Griffin |

Forgot to add in my excitement at it finally actually working, tried both in single and combined and using link, and worked fine, I have always used link anyawy it was the only it worked within the 20-23 barrier. |

Neither do I Darren I just did all subs for a quick test, I normally only select the categories i needed, but in supermarkets I still hit the 20-23 barrier which makes it longwinded using POIedit to reselect everytime,
I think maybe Andy has a valid point about the link, what is the link anyway??? |

I still don't understand, there aren't 20 sub-categories in the supermarkets category? Even so I cannot think of a valid reason why you would choose to download all 20 of them? _________________ Darren Griffin |

Afraid there are....

But even so, I just tried downloading all 20 combined into one and it worked fine without the "show link" being needed.
Edit: Just tried it WITH "show link" - exactly the same success.
Edit 2: Just tried it keeping the categories separate, still OK. |

If I'm running low on Fuel, I want the nearest, I don't care what brand.
The same point could be made for ATMs. _________________ Richard

OK, I can accept there may be a justification but even so, for a free service if that's what you want then it isn't too much to expect you to do some work yourself and combine them?
The key point I am trying to get across is that we never intended the system to be used in such a way. The majority of downloads are of single sub-categories which is what we designed it for. _________________ Darren Griffin |

How about splitting the POI categories into separate downloads once there sub cats for any single category reaches a count of 20, so there would be a number of headings each containing up to 20 sob cats, a part a, part b, part c etc this would make life easier for heavy users and simplify the job of using POIEdit to concatenate into one single file - Mike |

Update,
Can now download all categories as single files in one go and fuel as combined category, problem with accom but this does not unduly concern me, have to agree shouldnt be need to download combined multiple categories, I am now happy with downloads, never been able to download so many |

Afraid I reserve judgement on that one richard,Maybe a bit of both sides,
But I am happy at the moment because it seems to be downloading what suits me using IE8, hope i am not speaking too soon. |

I had trouble with corrupt files etc when I first started using the POI, I tried to download everything in every category and then wondered why most of it wasnt showing up on the map! By simply downloading only the sub-categories I needed and ticking the 'show link' box all is fine now for me. Be patient - even if it goes pear shaped with IE8 - you wont find a better database on the net. _________________ Graham

Couldnt agree more, Just a shame it isnt troublefree downloading, I feel that it could be a lot more successful if less troublesome. |
