the 760 is probably equivalent to 720. text to speech, uk & europe mapping, fm transmitter
also, re the fm transmitter on the 710 i reviewed, i've just updated firmware to 2.6 (was 2.5) and it still only goes up in intervals of 0.2mhz

If it helps I got my Nuvi 760T from Amazon - £259.99.
This is my first SatNav so am a bit of a rookie and am still getting used to what it can do. For the record, the FM transmitter works very well and does indeed go in steps of 1Khz. I updated the firmware to 2.6. I also find that the Traffic information seems to work fine though I have yet to test it on a long journey. I'd be interested to know from others how reliable this information is generally.
Chose the Garmin over the TomTom equivalent after exhaustive research (including this site which really is excellent ). So far I am very pleased with it. Have loaded some custom POIs from here but am not sure whether the 257 max limit applies to my 760T so have been very cautious on how many I install (all to the SD card). |

MaFt, I noticed you said under Data Logging (Trip Log)
Quote: | I would have thought you could export a GPX file (or similar format) to an external program but there is no mention of this feature in the manual and I could not find any obvious candidate for such a file within the device contents either. |
I read somewhere that the 660 has a file called waypoints.gpx which can be copied to EasyGPS. Does the file not exist on the 710? |

You can upload the track (breadcrumb trail) into Mapsource and get detail off it. Is that what you mean by trip log?

Trip Log is a function that when switched on shows a blue line everywhere you've been since you last Cleared the Trip-Log.
Are you saying the Waypoints.gpx also contains the blue line (breadcrumb trail) data? |

When I connected to Mapsource I uploaded "tracks" which is the "breadcrumb" trail. This has detail of times, speed etc.
Sorry, I know nothing about "waypoints.gpx"
Bob
p.s. How do you clear the "trip log"? |

Ah it's a file on the Nuvi.
So you need MapSource to upload the Tracks data? I've got a v9 DVD here and i'm waiting for a v10 DVD. I'll see if either has MapSource and give it a go... |

I would expect Mapsource to be on the DVD as you need it to transfer maps. Sadly "routes" do not seem to transfer, even though Mapsource claims to have transferred them - either that or I'm missing something

spoke to garmin about the trip log and was informed that there is a way to get the data off but it was never mentioned in the manual! newer units have this expanded and can export trips to google maps etc.
he's going to get back to me with more instructions!

I was missing something: after you download the "route" from Mapsource to the N760 you then have to go to "my data/import route from file" to get the Nuvi to see the route.
I wonder why Garmin think downloaded routes should not appear in the "routes" list automatically?

Have Garmin improved the routing yet? My wife's i3 often chooses very minor tracks in areas where my TomTom uses much more appropriate roads. It has made me very wary of Garmin - I would not consider purchasing one unless the routing engine has been improved

Didn't know the problem existed in the 7xx series. Previous series had a Firmware update that solved the problem but they were released long before the 7xx series.

Well my i3 with v8 plotted one particular near me in the way i normally would drive, but the v9 maps do a bit of a round the back of some houses route. v10 does it too....
If you have a route or 2 you want me to try I'll see what v10 does... |
