Get hold of TomTom quickly! I bought my 520 on 15th January, downloaded 7.10 within the guarantee period and when I saw that 7.15 map was out I contacted Customer Support to ask if I could have it.

After thinking about it for a week they have added it to my account today and it is ready to download.

Very Happy

From the first use this morning I can confirm that the Stoke Hammond bypass is in there now (Beds/Bucks). Not bad as this has only been open since Oct 2007.

Well, another "not bad" is that PGPSW has a mobile camera reported on it (not verified yet - it's still a field on my maps, you lucky so and so). Eat yer heart out TomTom!

And what happens to that road on Google at 51.91613, -0.70070?? Laughing

Would you mind checking one for me please, new road heading west at 50.61785, -2.48874 (making that location now a T junction, instead of a right-angle bend)?

There's still a right-angle bend on this location.

Must admit I have been driving along the new road twice a day since it opened and I haven't seen a mobile camera yet. Maybe that's because I travel before they get up (around 7.30am) and after they have gone home for their tea (5.30pm).

I've noticed the same thing in Dagnall - I've been late to work twice this month, and have seen a van parked up twice in the same location at 9am, but never in 5 years have I seen a van there when I normally come past at 7.45am/5.15pm. It's not marked as a mobile location either (51.834617, -0.558964).

Nice to see Jersey mapping at last, no Guernsey though. Unfortunately there are no postcodes for Jersey.

Well, have you reported it? If you had done, it might have been worth a free lifetime subscription? Thumbs Up

After reading this post for a few weeks I felt I needed to drop a support ticket to TomTom. At the end of Jan 2008 I purchased a Western Europe (v710) maps only to find within 15 days 715 version was out. Not only that but as earlier posters had mentioned the website showed v715 but the TT Home app showed 710.

So I vented politely. And got told that at the time of purchase this was the correct version. I still kinda felt cheated that in less than 10 days the maps were obsolete and I would have to pay full price to get the latest update.

So I pointed this out and after some positive criticism and suggestions that perhaps an annual map subscription model might be called if they are going to update maps more than once a year, apparently when I login to Home I will have access to 715. Finger crossed. And if it is true my view of TomTom will have exceeded expectations and thus I wanted to inform other people of this good Customer Service from TomTom.

Well I am waiting to see......
when I contacted TT to see why I couldn't download the v715 maps I was told that it was because I had already updated my maps from v705(?) to v710 when I purchased the unit.
When I pointed out to TT that I had purchased the unit mid January and that v710 maps had been available since November I suggested that the first download to bring the unit into line with the CURRENT map version should have been FOC I was met with much toing and froing between the advisor and his supervisor.
My case is now under consideration and I shall wait and see what the result is but I don't think it is too much to expect that when I purchase a unit that the current map version is standard (or at least downloadable without incurring any penalty i.e that if an update is launched within 30 days it isn't going to cost me extra)

The jury is out.........

There is no question that you are in the 30 day guarantee period and will get the map for free!

Escalate it if necessary!

Ah... but the difference is that he had already updated once, and if you look at the wording of the guarantee it says:
Quote:
Latest map guarantee means that if a newer map is released during 30 days from when you first start using your device, you’re entitled to one free map download.
(my bold text).

I'm not saying it's right or ethical, but that's what they have been using to wriggle out of it.

As I mentioned above, I bought my 520 on 15th January, updated from 705 to 710 and have now downloaded 715 free of charge.

Or am I a lucky one? Thumbs Up

So as not to create confusion.

I bought my TT One XL 9 months ago.
I have since then updated my UK & Ireland map in Nov 2007.
I then decided as I was visiting France in Springtime 2008 to buy a bigger storage card and purchase the Western Europe Maps which at the time were v710.

It is the purchase of the Western Europe maps that I took issue with.

I understand the 30 day map update that you mention above as 30 days from buying a new *device* and *activating* it that you have 1 free map update if there is an update in those 30 days using the drop down menu item to do the update.

My scenario was not this. It was purely me buying an additional map for an 9 month old device and getting a bit miffed that within 10 days of purchasing v710, v715 comes out and TT would not provide that map update FOC. Also the lack of communication and mis-communication between Home app and the TT website and what the maps include and don't include would be more customer friendly. Basically setting expectations. Anyway I did lay lots of points out in one of my responses to TT and hope they do get escalated and not lost in some corp ticketing application.

In the olden days of inbuilt car sat Nav's I thought you bought an update cd/DVD once a year, which was farely palatable. Now with highly flexible sophisticated devices which can plug into the internet and have all manner of updates I think the model should change and customers cannot be expected to pay what was a large annual fee equivalent whenever there is a new update. I am happy to pay an annual fee and get updates throughout the year. I might even be tempted to pay a 3 year fee (get a discount saving) to get 3 years of map updates (that is then a guarantee revenue stream for TT). Of course at the end of the day it is the consumers choice.

But with TT's great idea of a community spirit Mapshare, what happens to the updates the consumer supplies back to TT? Does it get fed back to TT and ultimately the map supplier who then uses the data as a cheap method of updating the maps which are then in turn sold back to the consumer in the form of the updated maps which we have to fork out £40+ for?

To end my little saga. I connected my XL to Home this evening and immediately it started to download an updated Western Europe Map. I checked it is v715. I am a happy TT punter again. Although it did take 4 replies to their response of "No". I would whole heartedly recommend TT despite some of its foyballs.

The moral of the story is that sometimes if you complain long and loud enough, TomTom will give you new maps just to shut you up, even when you are strictly not entitled to them.
It worked for me....

Actually, I was hasty and wrong. If its the 710 MAP you bought at a sale price, then you are indeed lucky and NOT entitled to an upgrade (unless you were willing to pay the difference).

On the other hand, I am glad it worked out well for you. i am always on the side of the consumer.

I tend to agree. I was lucky.
Is there an option to pay the difference? I might have considered it if it existed and they properly documented the changes
