ive downloaded and installed the latest gb map v710 on my go300 and updated the software and i get an error message when i switch from my old map to the new one " unable to store map settings : file access error" but the map appears to work.... UNTIL i switch it off then back on again the go seems to lock on a screen which says in top right of window "welcome to go300" i then have to use tthome to reset back to my original v562.0 map and everything then works as normal, ANY and ALL help would be very much appreciated

chris

Try the "ClearFlash" utility from TomTom

A complete guess would be to check the CurrentMap.dat File in the Root of the Card.

See if it is Read only. If it is Un-tick the Attribute.

It's in the same place as the data.chk, ttsystem and splash bitmap files.

Not in the Map Folder.

1. Did you ever find the file Oldboy asked about? You don't say if you were looking in the wrong place or if it is really not there.

2. With those symptoms it sounds to me like you could be short on space on your SD card. The Go300 uses the card as spare "buffer memory" while working out routes. I don't know exactly how much it needs, but certainly a few MB I'd have thought.

And?... Sorry to hassle you, but the name of that file was??

Oldboy obviously had an idea as to what your problem might be, and it refers to the "CurrentMap.dat" file.
It doesn't matter at all what icon your PC chooses to give it, it's not a file designed for use by Windows anyway (the TT uses Linux), and MY "CurrentMap.dat" file is also 1k in size.

Give Oldboy a chance to help and he will....

Sorry for delay in getting back. Internet problems since yesterday evening. Sad

The CurrentMap.dat File is one of the files that holds the data as to which is the Map currently in use. Rolling Eyes

If, when you change Maps, the Device is unable to write to this File, or any other file, you might be able to use the Map for the current session, but subsequent starts will read the File and come up with a different Map.

As I said in my first reply - it's purely an educated guess.

You seem to have more than one problem if it freezes up while calculating.

After using the Clear Flash Utility, did you immediately use the Option to Reset to Factory Settings? Last page of Change Preferences.

The only things you will lose are your settings, which will have to be redone.

It doesn't remove any custom install files.

Had same prob with my 910, tomtom said to do the following procedure , which worked fine

Connect your TomTom device to your computer.

Click Start /My Computer and then right-click the removable drive called TomTom.

Click Properties.

Select the Tools tab.

Under Error checking click Check Now...

Tick both boxes and then click Start.

The utility checks the device's memory and fixes possible errors.
This may take several minutes (a GO 910 may take up to an hour).

Once the Disk Check is finished, the File Access Error should be resolv
