Ahem! Smile

Lurching back on-topic...
I still have the old POI.DAT viewer prog on my PC (can't remember where it came from).
It doesn't seem to like the poi.dat from new maps very much, it shows the categories but only a few of the entries. However, when I tried to get it to open the CRPOI.DAT file and it wouldn't touch it (crashed the prog.)

So, just for a giggle I deleted the CRPOI.DAT file...
So far I haven't noticed ANY difference Stop it!
All the built in POIs seem to be there (both UK and abroad), all my user POI categories are there, Mapshare POI corrections and the UK Doctors,Dentists etc, addons are all still there as far as I can see.

What CRPOI.DAT is for, still eludes us....

Ditto. Did that as well, with the same result. Haven't seen any adverse usage yet.

50MB door stop, if you ask me. Rolling Eyes

BTW,

TT wants me to note size of CRPOI, remove map corrections, note size again, restore them and again note size.

This is pointless for 2 reasons,
1) they can do this themselves
2) CRPOI (and POI) files never change size NOR date!

My own conslusion, is that CRPOI are just additional POIs that are maybe more obscure so you dont notice them when deleted.

That's what I thought, but with no working tool to count how many entries there are in a particular POI category, we are a bit stuck.

If whoever made the original poi.dat viewer is still around, we'd love a new version, please!
(Although they have probably been paid off by TomTom as it used to expose mercilessly how dreadful some of the TT POI categories were!) Twisted Evil

Nope, not that lot....

This is just a little prog (POIView.exe), that opens poi.dat files and shows all the categories down the left hand side and when you click on one it shows all the entries.
Except now on t he latest versions of poi.dat it just shows a column of "0"s and then about twenty of the entries. Crying or Very sad

I think Ray Flanagan may have been behind it....
