Cameras flash you at what speed?

Hi,

I'm curious to know what speed cameras flash you at? especially in a 70mph zone, what speed would you have to be going to get a ticket?

Generally, the rule of thumb is

Speed Limit + 10% + 2 MPH

so at 70 mph that is 79 mph.

However that is a ACPO guideline and not concrete / set in stone / set in law.

You maybe flashed at lower speeds but hear nothing of it too.

in theory you can be flashed at ANY speed over the speed limit. in reality, due to innauracies in car speedo's etc they tend to give you some leeway and the guidelines, as paul mentioned, are 10% + 2mph.

if it's a mobile site it totally depends on the operator! if you are doing 31mph in a 30 they can legally do you (it's more than 30) but will likely give you the benefit of the doubt. anything over 35 (30 * 110% + 2) then it is clearly above the set limit and chances are you will be done for it - possibly just a warning but that depends both on your attitude and the operators mood!
